In this tutorial, you will learn how to enhance your 3D animated t-shirt mockups by adding stunning background images. We’ll guide you through a step-by-step process to find or create beautiful backgrounds, including the use of free resources and AI-generated images. By the end, you will be able to elevate the appeal of your 3D mockups with this simple yet effective technique.

Step 1: Find or Create Your Background Image

To start, you need to select an appropriate background image. There are two approaches you can take:

  1. Free Stock Images: Visit Pixabay to browse through a vast library of free images. You can search for specific themes or styles that would complement your mockup.

  2. AI-Generated Images: Another option is to generate an image using AI for free. Navigate to Adobe Firefly and select the "Text to Image" feature. Compose a prompt to describe the desired image. To assist you, we have provided two sample prompts. Once your prompt is completed, hit "Generate." Adobe Firefly will display four image options, allowing you to select a landscape image that fits your vision. Choose your preferred image and download it.

Step 2: Upload and Modify Your Background Image

Once you have your background image, go to Virtual Threads and click on "Create."

  1. Navigate to the "Background" tab and click the upload image icon.
  2. A 2D square will appear in the bottom left corner. Click the arrow next to it and then select the upload image button.
  3. Choose your background image and click on it once to bring up a bounding box. You can click and drag the corners of the box to adjust the size of your image. Additionally, dragging the center of the image allows you to reposition it according to your needs.

If you wish to try a different backdrop, you can reset the current background by clicking the reset button, and then repeat the upload process with a new image.

Step 3: Adding Graphics to Your Background

To complete your mockup, you can overlay graphics on the background:

  1. Select the "Upload Your Design" button and go through the same image upload process as before for your t-shirt design.
  2. Additionally, you can upload your background image again if you want to create a layered effect by projecting the same graphic in a larger size behind the shirt.

When everything looks good, simply select "Export" to save your work. You can export your final product as an image, video, or 3D file.
