Create Your Own Font INSIDE Illustrator! How to Use Fontself Maker in Adobe Illustrator
Hi, this is Anne with graphic design how-to, and today I'm going to show you how to create your own font inside Adobe Illustrator using Fontself Maker. This tutorial is an excerpt from my Skillshare class. If you want to learn more, you can access the full class here for free.
Back in the day, creating your own font was expensive, with font software costing hundreds to thousands of dollars. However, Fontself Maker changed the game by providing a more affordable option at around $ 50. I've been using it to create fonts ever since and have even sold them on my Etsy shop, earning over a thousand dollars. In this article, I'll guide you through the process of creating your font using Fontself Maker in Adobe Illustrator.
Prepare Your Characters: Before getting started, you need to draw out your characters, vectorize them, clean them up in Illustrator, and arrange them in a row from A to Z, 0 to 9, and special characters. Each character should be grouped for Fontself Maker to work correctly.
Using Fontself Maker: Open Fontself Maker in Illustrator and drop your characters into the designated slots for uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters. Make sure to review and assign the correct characters for each slot.
Adjust Spacing: Fontself Maker allows you to adjust spacing and kerning with one click, but you may need to fine-tune it manually for perfection.
Save and Export: Save your font with a name, select a location for saving, and export it. Install the font on your computer and start using it in Illustrator or any other program.
Enjoy Your New Font: Once installed, select your newly created font in Illustrator and start using it for your design projects.
