A Chef Tests a 21-IN-1 SMART COOKER | Sorted Food

Howto & Style

Introduction

Welcome back to Sorted Food! We’re thrilled to share our latest kitchen gadget adventure. Today, we’ve teamed up with Tocket to put their new prototype smart home chef, the Omnic Cook, to the test. Over the past few weeks, the food team has had the chance to experiment with this impressive device, and now we’re ready to see how it performs with everyday cooks.

The Setup

To ensure we get unbiased feedback, we invited two home cooks, referred to as “normal cooks,” to try out the Omnic Cook. If they can make it work, then anyone can! To be transparent, this is a sponsored advertisement, but all opinions expressed are sincerely our own.

Upon unboxing, the Omnic Cook greeted us with a flashing interface. The first step was to connect it to the internet, after which it began downloading a collection of recipes ready for cooking.

First Task: Hollandaise Sauce

We decided to start by making Hollandaise sauce using the preset functions. The machine melted and clarified butter, guiding us through the process with ease. After adding ingredients like water, egg yolks, lemon juice, and spices, it took over the cooking with precision, making the sauce practically fool-proof.

The results were impressive: a delicious, smooth Hollandaise that surpassed expectations.

Cooking a Four-Course Meal

After this initial success, we decided to put the Omnic Cook through its paces by preparing a full four-course meal—covering various cuisines and techniques.

Course One: Gazpacho

For our first course, a chilled Andalusian Gazpacho was on the menu. We tossed in our roughly chopped ingredients—tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, garlic, and olive oil—and let the machine blend everything smoothly. After a brief marination period, the mixture was served up, and everyone loved it.

Course Two: Meatballs in Tomato Sauce with Polenta

Next, we switched to a classic Italian dish: meatballs in tomato sauce with polenta. The Omnic Cook’s mincing functionality easily combined onion, garlic, herbs, and bread before we formed them into meatballs. The sauce was also simmered beautifully, allowing the flavors to meld together. A touch of finesse was involved when it came to making the polenta, but with the device controlling temperature, we achieved a perfect consistency.

Indian Feast

We previously prepped an Indian feast to showcase the machine’s capabilities further. With a blend of spices, we marinated lamb, created a spiced yogurt, and finally prepared rice and flatbreads. While the machine didn’t cook everything independently, it did facilitate each step, making otherwise tedious preparations significantly more manageable.

Final Touch: Shaved Ice Dessert

To end the meal, we created a refreshing shaved ice dessert. By blending ice with frozen berries and adding a splash of alcohol, we indulged in a light, refreshing treat perfect for wrapping up the feast.

Verdict

Throughout the cooking process, the Omnic Cook showcased its versatility, handling tasks such as weighing, chopping, steaming, and blending seamlessly. The flexibility of having numerous functions in one appliance was a significant time-saver compared to traditional methods.

While the price point of $ 699 (around £500) could seem steep initially, the convenience and efficiency it offers make it a worthwhile investment for home cooks.

Overall, such an intuitive machine caters not only to novice cooks but even more experienced ones looking to streamline their culinary efforts. If you’re interested in learning more about the Omnic Cook, check out its Kickstarter page linked in the description below.
