AI-Generated Music Vocals Are Crazy (New Tech)

Now, I truly believe that some of the hit songs of the future are probably going to be created with AI because AI music technology is progressing so quickly. In this article, I'm going to show you a handful of tools that I think are pretty groundbreaking. Note that all of this is sort of ground-floor stuff, meaning it’s still very, very early in its development. If you're not super impressed by anything I’m sharing, just give it a month.

MusicLM by Google Research

The first tool I want to talk about is called MusicLM, which is actually put out by Google Research. We don’t have access to play with this one ourselves, but they provide a bunch of examples to showcase its capabilities. MusicLM is a text-to-music platform. Let’s quickly take a listen to some of the examples they give and then I’m going to show you other really cool music generation tools that are available right now.

For instance, by generating the prompt “The main soundtrack of an arcade game is fast-paced and upbeat with a catchy electric guitar riff,” you get music that sounds something like this:

[Music Example]

It reminds me of a song out of Sonic the Hedgehog or something like that. There’s another prompt for a meditative song: “calming and soothing, with flutes and guitars. The music is slow with a focus on creating a sense of peace and tranquility”:

[Music Example]

I feel like I’m in a Day Spa right now. There's also an R&B, hip-hop music piece that includes a male vocal rapping and a female vocal singing in a rap-like manner. This can actually generate vocals, albeit not real words:

[Music Example]

The audio quality is pretty catchy, right? MusicLM is also capable of generating music based on timed prompts as shown in their “Story Mode.” Here's a quick example where they use timestamps for "Time to meditate," "Time to wake up," "Time to run," and "Time to give":

[Music Example]

That's incredibly cool! It can change the song based on the prompts and the timestamps given.

Synthesizer V by Dreamtonics

Another groundbreaking tool is called Synthesizer V. This allows for AI-generated music vocals, which can be quite mind-blowing. It’s trained on the voices of various singers and allows you to type in words that the AI turns into vocals. You can even change the key.

Let’s take a look at some examples on their website that blew my mind the first time I heard them:

[Music Example]

All of these vocals you just heard were generated from text to voice prompts.

It’s crazy impressive stuff! The demo version of Synthesizer V even allows for some hands-on experimentation. For example, you can type in lyrics like “Hello, YouTube,” adjust the length of the notes, and change the key.

Here's a sample of what it can do:

Example of manually crafted vocal: Hello YouTube
my name is Matt Wolf
this is the
best channel on YouTube

Now let's listen to a masculine voice named Kevin:

Or another voice named Asterian:

Natalie is another example:

This tool allows musicians with minimal skills to create vocal tracks that sound highly realistic.

Voice Mod’s Meme Song Machine

Lastly, I’ve found a fun tool by Voice Mod. Their Meme Song Machine allows you to generate songs for free and have fun with a finite set of styles, such as Dark Trap and Levitation:

[Music Example]

Here's an example using different styles and singers with lyrics like:

Matt Wolf is the creator of Future Tools And his YouTube channel makes awesome videos about AI Technology. Everyone should subscribe.

This might not be perfect, but if you spend more time tweaking syllables and beats, you can create some epic-sounding content.

Conclusion

Between what Google is working on with MusicLM, tools like Synthesizer V, and fun generators like Voice Mod’s Meme Song Machine, AI-generated music is definitely going to take off. This technology is still in its infancy, but the capabilities are already impressive. As a musician, producer, or vocalist, there’s no need to be worried right now, but it's essential to recognize and embrace the potential of these tools.
