In today’s video, I decided to switch things up and delve into basketball card collecting since there hasn’t been much in the way of new football releases lately. We’re still eagerly anticipating a range of select football products, particularly the Walmart blasters, which have seen some price drops to around $ 30—comparable to Target’s pricing. With this context, I decided to grab two blaster boxes at Walmart for less than $ 20 each to compare them with one blaster box priced closer to $ 30.
After unwrapping the boxes, I was prepared to go Victor Wembanyama rookie hunting. This particular hunt has not yielded much luck in my previous attempts, so fingers crossed!
We kicked things off with the first hanger box. My previous experiences with hangers had been relatively fruitful, even scoring a numbered card on my last unboxing. Inside the box, I hoped for decent rookie cards like Malik Monk, Paolo Banchero, and others.
As I inspected the cards, I discovered:
Notably, the box included a few velocity parallels, among them a color match Cade Cunningham, but ultimately, it fell short of my expectations, especially with such a dismal finish featuring Danilo Gallinari.
This particular hanger was disappointing, especially compared to my past experiences.
Next up, I delved into the blaster box. The excitement built as I opened packs—hoping for more base cards proportionate to the price. The expectation rose as I tore through the packs, finding:
Eventually, I found myself struggling through 19 base cards in this blaster, which felt excessive and left me questioning its value.
After unpacking both boxes, it was clear that the hanger boxes offered better quality and value.
With disappointment lingering from the blaster, I moved on to the second hanger box as a last chance for recovery.
In this box, I had:
The results here were a mixed bag. I did land a Maxwell Lewis blue velocity rated rookie, as well as an Oser Thompson express lane rookie parallel. Despite these finds, overall, it did not redeem the lackluster experience from earlier.
To wrap up the day, it became evident that opening Optic boxes has proven to be quite challenging and not in my favor. Despite the hype surrounding them, my collection did not provide the desired results.
The hope for Victor Wembanyama rookies continues, but with the painful experience of the rips behind me, I remain optimistic for better hits in future openings. As we head further into the week, I encourage everyone with similar rookie pursuits to keep hunting!
