In a dry and barren desert field, a woman walks briskly. She is crying, and there's nothing but dust and rocks for as far as the eye can see. A steady stream of tears runs down her face and falls to the ground behind her, collecting into the dust. We don't know where the woman is going or what she is crying about. She is called the crying brisk walker, mostly because she cries and walks briskly. She walks in a smooth path that curves and bends as it pleases.

As the heavy tears collect in the dust, puddles are formed. The puddles slowly grow and eventually connect and flow behind her, forming a stream and eventually a river. Along the edge of the river, small plants and grass begin to grow. After the grass, bushes and larger plants, and eventually trees as well rise out of the ground.

A young man named Spitting Image, the son of the village chief Stupid Face—who was named after his stupid face and was the chief of the village that had been built down the river—was following the river's path.
