Hi and welcome or welcome back to DIY film with Merle Becker! This is the channel where I help you make better videos. As always, stick around to the end of the video for a bonus tip.

Quick AI Tool For Color Correction

Here's a quick AI tool in Premiere that'll make your footage look way better and save you time. We're working in Premiere version 23.2.0, so if yours is older or newer, it might look slightly different.

Most people don't learn how to color correct until they've been editing for a while—and that's fine. Luckily, Adobe understands this and provides a tool within the Lumetri Color panel to help you color correct your footage without needing deep knowledge about the process.

Accessing Lumetri Color Panel

  1. First, put a clip in your timeline. Here's mine.
  2. Park your playhead on your clip.
  3. To access the Lumetri Color tab: If yours isn't open, go to Window > Lumetri Color.

Using AI Auto Color Correction

Now you're ready to do some auto color correcting. Mind you, this process isn't perfect. But if you need some assistance or just a head start on fixing your color, follow these steps:

  1. Hit the Auto button and Premiere will utilize AI to make basic adjustments. For instance, in my example, it darkened the blacks and the clip looks a bit better.
  2. Adjust the intensity of the color correction using the intensity slider.
  3. Check your adjustments by toggling the Lumetri Color effect on and off via the FX button in the effects controls tab.
  4. Revert changes if needed by selecting the adjustment in the effect controls tab and hitting delete.

Expert Tip

Once you're comfortable with basic editing in Premiere, I highly encourage you to learn the fundamentals of color correction. It’s not that hard and even though the AI auto-correct provides a decent job for basic fixes, your footage could look even better when you understand what each Lumetri scope and slider does and how it can help you achieve your desired look. The Lumetri Color panel has powerful tools at your disposal, and understanding how to use them will elevate your videos. [Link to Introduction to Color Correction video in Premiere].
