Introduction
Introduction
With over 300 apps integrated into Canva, ranging from productivity tools and design essentials to AI generation and integration with other services, it can be challenging to know where to start. My name is Kat, and welcome to the first episode of Canva Caturday, a brand new series where I'll be highlighting a few of these apps in each episode, showing you how to use them in your Canva designs.
Colorize
The first app I’d like to spotlight is Colorize. This app adds color to black and white images and can be accessed in two ways:
Method 1: Existing Photo
- Click on your photo in a Canva design.
- Select Edit, then choose Colorize from the sidebar.
- Click Colorize and Replace.
- Adjust the image further if necessary. For instance, you can tone down unwanted tints by using the Adjust setting.
Method 2: Uploading a New Image
- Navigate to the Apps section in the left sidebar.
- Search and select Colorize.
- Upload your desired image from your device.
Comparison: The original and colorized images may have slight discrepancies, which can be fine-tuned using the edit options.
Text Maker
Next up is Text Maker, which is perfect for creating fun, 3D text effects for your designs:
- Go to the Apps section and search for Text Maker.
- Choose your text and adjust colors, outlines, and 3D effects.
- Select from various fonts and alignment settings.
- Experiment with different pre-set effects and styles under the Effects tab.
- Once satisfied, click Add to design. Further color adjustments can be made in the adjustments tab if needed.
Pro Tip: Keep experimenting with different fonts and color effects to find the perfect match for your design.
Design to Image
Lastly, my current favorite app is Design to Image. This app converts any Canva design into a JPEG or PNG without needing to download and then re-upload the design:
- Go to the Apps section and search for Design to Image.
- Choose the conversion type (PNG or JPEG) and set your size and background preferences (e.g., transparent background).
- Click Export. The converted image will appear directly in your Canva library.
Usage Example: Ideal for repetitive tasks like creating seamless patterns without the need to repeatedly download and re-upload designs.
Conclusion
These three apps—Colorize, Text Maker, and Design to Image—are just the tip of the iceberg in Canva’s extensive app library. They can significantly enhance your design capabilities by adding colors to black and white images, creating dynamic text effects, and simplifying the design-to-image conversion process.
