DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EMPTY NESTER

Morning Adventures: A Day of Errands and Fitness

Ernie and I had quite a busy day today. We started with a visit to the dump to get rid of old collection items that I no longer needed. Afterward, we hit the gym - our local gym has finally reopened! I'm determined to get myself back onto the treadmill daily, and Ernie is my fantastic support system for this initiative. We wrapped up our errands with a lunch outing and a grocery shopping trip.

Designing the Bunk Room: Inspiration and Ideas

I've been toying with the idea of redoing the bunk room. While I have a lot of prep work to do, I've started piecing together the design. I love using Canva for this purpose. I create mood boards to ensure that everything I envision will work together seamlessly.

My goal is to create a gender-neutral room that pays homage to our California roots - a nautical theme is what I'm leaning towards. I used Canva to scour the internet for elements like bunk beds, area rugs, and bedding that fit this theme. Once I found items I liked, I used Canva to see how everything blends. Below is a summary of what I have so far:

  • Bunk Beds: I found a low-profile bunk bed that fits the theme perfectly.
  • Area Rug: Still undecided, but I found a nautical rug that gives me a good starting point.
  • Bedding: Initially, I didn't like the first set I chose. After some more searching, I found a design that integrates navy blue sheets and neutral comforters, likely from Betty’s, known for their convenience with bunk beds.

Getting Organized: Upcoming Projects and Florida Trip

Before I can dive into the bunk room project, I need to declutter a lot of my home decor items. I'm considering organizing a mini home decor sale for the ladies in the neighborhood and my daughter-in-law. The attic will be a winter project, as it's too hot right now.

In a week, we're heading to Florida for two weeks. I won't upload any videos during this period but will be filming our journey. This little break will help me recharge and focus on our new apartment in Florida. Stay tuned for video updates once I get back home and edit the footage. Upon returning, my primary goal will be to declutter the home decor room.

Evening Routine: A Calm Wrapped-Up

The heatwave has been relentless, but it’s given me a good excuse to take care of the plants twice a day. The yellow begonias on my porch have bounced back beautifully and are now in full bloom despite an earlier frost.

For dinner, I made myself a spicy chicken sandwich. Here's a quick rundown of my recipe:

  • Chicken: Seasoned with Nashville seasoning and cooked in the air fryer.
  • Toppings: Mustard, pickles, jalapenos, tomato, and lettuce on sesame brioche buns.

After dinner, I cleaned up the kitchen, took a nap, and decided to unwind with a shower and by watching some TV. Thank you for spending a few hours with me today. I look forward to sharing more daily vlogs soon. Until next time, take care!
