Diary of a wimpy kid: Generation X

    Introduction

    April Monday

First of all, let me get this straight – this is a journal, not a diary. Now, I know what it says on the cover, but mind you, my mom was the one who bought this, not me, so she's the one to blame. I should probably introduce myself. My name is Gregory Yuki, or you can just call me Greg for short, and I'm going to be the next king of games.

If you somehow don’t know what that is, then in a nutshell, around 20 years or so ago, this card game called Duel Monsters started gaining traction and has now basically taken over the world. Yes, I know how silly that sounds, but to be honest, that’s why people like me love this game. With all the technological advances made thanks to this game, a simple duel can genuinely be entertaining, you know, thanks to all the flashy stuff that happens.

But enough about Duel Monsters because the main reason my mom got me this journal in the first place is because I managed to pass my Duel Academy entrance exams. If you don’t know, Duel Academy is one of the best institutions in the world, and also one of the most difficult schools to join. To be honest, getting through the entrance exam was absolute hell. I mean, I was almost kicked out due to the train being shut down for maintenance, and the people testing us were top-level duelists. Though I think my dad kind of bribed the judges to let me in. He always talks about how I should also be a top duelist like my brother, Rodri. He's currently finishing his final year at Duel Academy, and I despise him. He always puts on this stupid stoic facade even though he usually acts like a total slob.

There's also my younger brother Manny. He's going to start attending next year, and to be honest, I don’t know why they're allowing a three-year-old to attend what is essentially a boarding school, but then again, weirder stuff has happened before. Now, currently, I'm assigned to the Slifer Red dorm, and let me tell you, the last thing you want is to be in Slifer Red. I mean, out of the three dorms, it’s the lowest in the hierarchy, while Obelisk Blue, which is Rodri's dorm, is at the top. Well, at least I still have Rowley. He's been my friend for as long as I can remember, and not only did he pass his exams, but he also ended up being in the same dorm room as me.

Well then, it's starting to get late, so I should probably get some sleep. I mean, the last thing I need is for Rowley to find this journal. Well then, if today’s taught me something, it’s that I'm going to have a rough time at Duel Academy.

Firstly, we were introduced to by teachers, and it turns out that the head of Slifer Red is none other than Uncle Gary. Now, I know Slifer is where all the not-so-bright students are put into, but they are at least better than Uncle Gary. Then again, a lot of people say that he actually suppresses his dueling skills, but I think otherwise. I mean, he still thought it was a five-star summon for a normal monster.

After the assembly was over, we were given out timetables and sent off to our classes, though I wish they would just give us a map because this place is massive. It took me around five minutes just to find my first class, and let me tell you, the teacher was not happy. His name was Mr. Huff, and for some reason, he seemed to have a sort of grudge against me. So I just decided to ask around, and it turns out Rodri humiliated him during his first day by beating him in a duel, and he's been salty ever since. Personally, I’d be more worried about his haircut. I mean, what guy decides to have the top part of his head bald while also having a ponytail? At that point, just put a wig or something.

His lesson was just an intro to the class, so I didn’t really pay any attention, but I guess he took that as an insult because he eventually called me up to duel him. Wow, does this guy want to be humiliated a second time? Now, I would try to draw out the whole duel, but man, that would take forever. So here are some notable moments from it:

First off, he summoned Gearfried the Iron Knight. Next, he activated his spell card Release Restraint by tributing Gearfried the Iron Knight to special summon Gearfried the Swordmaster directly from his deck. That concluded his turn.

It was my turn now. I started by setting Dynamis Pteran and Dynamis Plesios in my Pendulum zones and managed to pendulum summon three monsters. Mr. Huff was impressive, but I countered by activating Dynamis Spinos’ effect to attack directly after tributing another monster. I also activated Limiter Removal, increasing Spinos’ attack to 5000, winning in one turn.

Huff was mortified. My classmates started applauding. Given that I'm not an Obelisk, this was the main way for me to gain respect. The Slifer Red students have it rough, and I had to deal with enough bullying when I was younger. But now, I am popular. Random students were high-fiving me in the hallways, and even a pretty Obelisk Blue girl named Holly Hills complimented me. I need to keep that in mind because being with someone of such high prestige would boost my popularity significantly.

However, I also made enemies. Bryce Anderson left a note challenging me to a duel. I was not thrilled but accepted the challenge. I need to be ready for anything. Rowley also told me about his Winged Kuriboh card talking to him, which was concerning. I hoped he wasn’t going insane.

    Wednesday

I woke up to find Rodri in my room. He went on a lengthy rant about our dad, the school hierarchy, Cyber Dragons, and other things. I didn’t pay much attention, but he gave me some excellent cards: three Infinite Impermanence and one Called by the Grave. Bryce left another note detailing our duel location – the main courtyard at 3:00 p.m.

After school, we started the duel. Bryce made a good first turn by summoning Red-Eyes Black Dragon, equipping it with Red-Eyes Fang with Chain, and setting multiple cards. But I remembered my new cards from Rodri. I countered Bryce’s plays using Infinite Impermanence, summons my monsters, and secured a victory using Limiter Removal and Spinos’ direct attack.

Bryce was devastated, and Holly Hills congratulated me again. She asked me for a favor: to investigate the abandoned Obelisk Blue dorm where her sister went missing. Despite Rowley’s concerns about getting expelled, we agreed to help her.

    Thursday

In the abandoned dorm, we found creepy marionettes and a locked book with a jewel. The flashlight died, and Holly went missing. We found a threatening note instructing us to reach the top of the building. We encountered more marionettes and eventually found Holly and a masked duelist named Aluber.

Rowley bravely challenged Aluber but was at a significant disadvantage against Aluber’s powerful monsters. However, a lucky draw helped him turn the duel around, using his fusion monsters and united we stand spell to triumph. Aluber disappeared.

Returning with Holly, we got caught by Mr. Huff but were saved from expulsion by Uncle Gary. Instead, we were punished with janitorial duty and forbidden to duel. Uncle Gary took the mysterious book for inspection.

    Friday

My first day of janitor duty was surprisingly okay. I met a fellow duelist named Shiro Gupta in the Ra Yellow dorm, who had an impressive card collection. We agreed to a duel using playmats to avoid detection due to my punishment. Shiro’s deck was formidable, but a new ban list notification changed the game, forbidding a critical card of his mid-duel, granting me a technical victory.

Later, Chancellor announced a first-year tournament, the winner of which would duel the top student, Rodri. I am determined to win and challenge Rodri.
