These office intelligence services are designed to help you save time and produce great results by creating a text transcript from spoken words. With Microsoft 365, every subscriber can now access these functions using the new Microsoft Edge or Chrome browsers.

Whether you're a journalist conducting interviews, an office worker attending meetings, or an online business owner documenting casual conversations, you can focus on the people you're speaking to without worrying about taking notes. Just log in to your Microsoft Office account on either Microsoft Edge or Chrome. If you don't have an account, you can easily create one with the provided link. Once signed in, open Word, choose a new blank document, and under the Home tab, you'll find the options to create a transcript in two ways: dictate and transcribe.

Using the Dictate Function

To begin with the dictate function, click "Dictate" and you'll hear a sound indicating that the feature has started. The words you speak will be transcribed in real time. You can also use voice commands to add punctuation and formatting, such as saying "period," "new line," and so on.

Examples of voice commands:

You can say "stop dictation" or click the stop button when you're done. Dictate also supports commands for formatting and adding symbols, making it flexible for various types of writing. Voice commands can even add symbols like ampersand, percent sign, question mark, etc.

Using the Transcribe Function

The transcribe function allows you to transcribe audio recordings into text in Word for the web. You'll need a recorded audio file saved on your computer, a reliable internet connection, and an active Microsoft 365 subscription. For example, you can transcribe a recorded portion of a video by clicking the drop-down and selecting "Transcribe."

After selecting your audio file, the transcription process may take a while. Once done, you can add the transcript to your document with options like just text, with speakers, timestamps, or with speakers and timestamps. This can help you easily locate specific sections of the audio file for edits and corrections.
