Digital Wedding Invitation Maker: Create Stunning Online Wedding Invitations for Free

Are you known for doing things differently, embracing new technology, and seeking ways to be more efficient? If the answer is yes, why should your wedding be anything different? Stick around, and I’ll share some invitation designs that are truly unique, incorporating links, QR codes, and other tools to help keep guests informed and excited about attending your one-of-a-kind wedding.

Hi, I'm Stephanie, a Talent Partner at Canva, and I wish I had access to some of these tools when I got married a few years ago.

Creating a wedding invitation that's truly unique can be difficult, especially if you're trying to avoid florals and scrolly fonts. What are you left with? Today, I'm going to show you how to design modern wedding invites that are far removed from traditional styles or formats.

If you prefer the more traditional printed style, check out my other video where I go into detail about that side of things. And if you don't want to miss out on other great videos, make sure you subscribe now.

Digital Invitations: A Savvy and Cost-Effective Choice

If you're looking for a savvy and cost-effective way to get your invitations out, then digital could be the perfect way to do it. The rules really change when you go digital, and the best way to explain this is to show you something I’ve made for a destination wedding.

Let’s start by identifying what sets this invite apart:

First up, the color: The lime green paired with black screams that this is going to be no ordinary wedding. It's fun and modern, perfectly symbolizing their desire for an epic party.

Next, the boarding pass design: This hints at the fact it's a destination wedding without totally giving it away. On the next page, guests discover it’s to be held in Bali.

Finally, the integration of a QR code and hyperlinked button: These are genius ideas for getting your guests to RSVP immediately. In this instance, guests have the option to RSVP by scanning the QR code or hitting the button to respond via email. But this technology could be used to link anything from a gift registry to a photo dropbox. You can even collect dietary requirements by adding a Google form.

Let me show you how easy it is to add a basic hyperlink or QR code.

With the hyperlink, let’s recreate it from scratch:

  • First, create the button shape by going to Lines and Shapes and selecting a rectangle.
  • Adjust its size to make it look more button-like and round the corners.
  • Double-click to add text; I’ll write "RSVP" here.
  • To make this clickable, click the link symbol and add an email address instead of a website. Guests will then be prompted to compose a reply with the return address already filled in.

Now for the QR code:

  • Delete the current QR code to start fresh.
  • You'll find the QR feature by clicking More and scrolling down to this app.
  • Click here, add a URL, and hit generate. You have a unique QR code that anyone can scan with a smartphone.

You could add a link to a Google form to gather attendance numbers, dietary requirements, or anything else you wish to share.

Enhance Your Invite with Animations

Adding animations to your digital invite is another excellent way to make it unique and engaging. For example, you can animate elements such as a plane flying in to signal a destination wedding.

Here’s how to animate an object:

  • Select the plane, click animate, and choose the "Pan" option.
  • Set it to enter, then stay put while the invitation is read.
  • Hit preview to see the plane animation in action.

You can also animate the whole page. With nothing selected, hit animate again and choose page animations to update all the animations on the page.

Sharing Your Digital Invitation

To share your digital invitation, create a view-only link and send it directly to guests via direct message or email.

  • Click on Share, then select view-only link.
  • Remember, if you change the design, you’ll need to resend the link.

Creating a Video Invitation

When it comes to digital, you don't need to stick to pages; you could easily make a little video. Let’s create a quick video to announce the engagement and invite people to the wedding.

  • Begin by choosing a blank video template, perhaps a square one.
  • Add in scenes, different elements, dates, and QR codes for RSVP and gift registry.
  • Include a fun video to end on.

Guests will surely be delighted to receive such an engaging and fun invite.

Post-Wedding Thank You Video

After the wedding, you can use Canva to make a thank you video, showing a few choice shots from the day. Since it's a copy, your fonts, colors, and elements are already there. Just move things around, add some choice shots, maybe even a bit of music, and you’re ready to send it out.

Designs like this make me want to digitize everything because it's practical and impressive. Digital invites save time, money, and effort, allowing you to focus on the fun parts of wedding planning.
