Easy AI Sound Effects - AudioGen Tutorial - Audiocraft Plus

Hey animators! If you love animating images as much as I do, you’ve probably experienced the frustration of searching for the perfect sound effect online. Sometimes, you just can’t find one that fits or has the right duration. But those days are over! You can now generate AI sound effects locally on your PC with a tool called Audiocraft Plus, and it’s super easy to set up and use.

Installation and Basic Setup

We will be installing Audiocraft Plus through a one-click install for AI tools named Pinocchio. If you need help with installing Pinocchio or want an overview of the tool, there’s a handy video that guides you step-by-step.

  1. In the Pinocchio tool, navigate to the Discovery tab.
  2. Search for Audiocraft Plus, confirm the name, and hit install.
  3. Once the installation is complete, click on Done and then on Start. This will launch the user interface in your web browser.

With the setup complete, you can now generate music or sound effects.

Generating Simple Sound Effects

For generating single, unchained sound effects:

  1. Set the duration of the effect.
  2. Enter the text prompt describing the sound.

Leave the duration at 10 seconds and type in a prompt like "rain," then click generate. When running the tool for the first time, Audiocraft will download some necessary files.

Your output will be generated as both a video file with a visualizer and an audio-only file. These files are stored in a predefined path, but you can also download them directly.

If you’re not happy with the result:

  • Generate the same prompt again with another seed.
  • Tweak the prompt by detailing what you want.

For example:

  • Same Prompt with Different Seeds:

    • Prompt: "rain"
    • Outputs: Various rain sound effects by regenerating with different seeds.
  • Tweaking the Prompt:

    • Modified Prompt: "light rain with distant thunder."
    • Output: A more specific sound effect based on additional details.

Generating a Sequence of Sound Effects

While you can combine single sounds using audio or video editing software, you may sometimes want a sequence of sound effects within Audiocraft Plus.

For example:

  • Global Prompt: "music festival"
  • Individual Prompts: "people cheering," "dog barking," "fireworks"
  • Total Duration: 30 seconds

Break your sequence down into detailed sections and enter them into the respective input fields. The tool will add the global prompt to each individual prompt and create the desired sequence.

Editing Existing Sound Effects

You can also add sound effects to existing audio files. Here’s how:

  1. Navigate to the Audio tab and drag your input audio file (e.g., a thunderstorm) into the field.
  2. Switch back to the Generation tab, enter your prompt, and click generate.

The result will overlay your existing sound with the new effect. For more precision, adjust the trim start or trim end settings to focus on specific parts of the audio.

User Interface Customization

You can customize the user interface visually and tweak several settings in the Settings tab. For instance, setting higher values for the temperature parameter will result in more random and diverse outputs, while lower values lead to more deterministic and focused results. The comprehensive Wiki included in the tool provides detailed information about each setting.

Another cool feature is the ability to drag an audio file created with Audiocraft into the Audio Info tab to see the prompt and settings used for its creation.

Animating Images

To animate images (like in the intro):

  1. Cut out objects that you want to animate using the regular Photos app on iPad. Save the image of each object separately.
  2. Choose an animated sky background or another desired effect using apps like Motionleap.
  3. Combine the background and the cut-out objects in a video editing tool of your choice, using keyframes to animate the objects.
  4. Add your AI-generated sound effects to complete the scene.

With these tools and techniques, you can now create your own animated images or videos with custom AI-generated sound effects.

I’m also experimenting with software that makes mouse clicks and keyboard inputs visible, which I hope wasn't too confusing. I hope you learned something new in this tutorial. If you did, please like, share, and subscribe!
