Step 1: Sourcing or Shooting the Source Video

The first step in creating your visual effects is sourcing or shooting your source video. It’s essential to have a clear idea in mind before you start shooting. For this example, we will demonstrate how to make a plant rapidly grow after being watered.

When recording your clips, ensure that the camera's autofocus and auto white balance are turned off. These settings can interfere with the final composite of your video clip. Using a tripod is also beneficial if you aim to avoid additional motion tracking complications.

Once you have your video footage, scrub through it and export a still frame where you want to apply the visual effects. Import this image into Gen 3 Alpha. Depending on your concept, you can use the first frame function, which passes the image as the first frame of your video, or the last frame function, which passes it as the final frame. For this tutorial, we will use the first frame function.

Step 2: Generating Visual Effects

For a static shot of a potted plant in a modern living space, prompt Gen 3 Alpha to transform the plant into a taller version as the camera remains in a wide static shot. Once you have an output you like, it’s time to composite it back into the original video.

Step 3: Compositing

Compositing is the process of combining two or more images to create one final image or video. In our case, we have the original video clip on the left and the generated video clip on the right, merging them creates the final video composite.

For the final output, feel free to adjust color correction, apply masking if needed, or add additional effects to enhance your vision.
