We will be using a tool you might already have on your computer—VLC Media Player.

Why Compress Video Files?

Sometimes, you may need to move large video files around. The size of these files can hinder your activities, such as uploading, sharing, or storing them. This guide presents a solution to help manage these large files efficiently.

Step 1: Download VLC Media Player

If you don't already have VLC Media Player on your computer, you'll need to download it. Here are the steps:

  1. Go to Google.
  2. Type “VLC download” into the search bar.
  3. Click on the first official VLC Media Player website link.
  4. Download and install VLC Media Player on your system.

Step 2: Open VLC Media Player

Once VLC Media Player is installed:

  2. Navigate to the top menu and click on Media.
  3. In the dropdown menu, select Convert/Save.

Step 3: Add the Video File

  1. Click on the Add button to locate the file you want to compress.
  2. Select the video file from your system.

Step 4: Convert the Video File

  1. After adding the file, click on the Convert/Save button.
  2. A new window will appear. Click on the drop-down menu next to Profile.
  3. Select Video for YouTube HD. This option ensures high-quality output.
  4. Click on the Browse button to choose the destination where the compressed file will be saved.
  5. Name the new compressed file and click on Save.
  6. Click Start to begin the conversion process.

Step 5: Wait for the Compression

  1. You will see a progress bar at the bottom of the VLC window indicating the conversion status.
  2. Once the progress bar completes, your video file is compressed and saved in the destination folder you selected.

That's it! You have successfully compressed a video file using VLC Media Player without losing any quality.
