How I Created an Audio Book with AI Tools

In the last episode, we created an illustrated children's storybook using AI-generated imagery mixed with Photoshop. In this video, we'll turn that story into an audiobook, incorporating additional AI tools to see what we can produce.

Quick Recap

Last week, we asked ChatGPT to generate a story about a little boy and a little girl aimed at children. It came up with the characters Jack and Lily along with an engaging storyline. I wanted the audiobook to be narrated by Lily, so we needed to provide her a voice.

Choosing the Voice Generator

There are numerous voice generators available, but one of the best for creating children’s voices that I discovered was Narakeet. They offer a reasonable free option, so I decided to use them. I fed in some of the script to test the voice and was quite happy with the result:

“Hi, we are Jack and Lily, and this is our story.”

My wife thought it was very cute, which encouraged me to proceed. After tweaking the rest of the script, I ended up with a narration that fit perfectly:

“Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Jack and a little girl named Lily.”

Adding Music

The next step was to find suitable music. I used Artlist for this, though it's not a plug—it's just the platform I have an account with. After selecting a fitting background score, it was time to grab our slides.

Creating Visuals and Intro Scene

We needed an intro scene, so I went back to MidJourney and generated the required imagery. After producing the visuals, I took them into Photoshop to separate them into layers and then moved on to After Effects to build a little 3D scene.

In After Effects, I set up all the layers in 3D space, added some animation, and came up with a satisfying result. I also incorporated a bit of the assets already in my library plus new sound effects from Motion Array.

Final Touches and Combining Elements

I manually adjusted the timing and made sure everything was synced perfectly. Although I forgot to record the audio for this part of the process, trust me when I say it involved meticulous tweaks to ensure alignment. The final result worked well.

Publishing

Finally, I plan to use ChatGPT to build a web page to display this video, so stick around for that. Here's a preview of the final result:

Hi, we are Jack and Lily, and this is our story.
