How I Edit My VIRAL Music Producer Instagram Reels & TikTok's

You guys have been asking me about how I edit my viral videos on Instagram and TikTok, so let's dive right into it. My weapon of choice for video editing is Final Cut Pro, and here’s how I do it step-by-step.

Setting Up

First, I create a new project in Final Cut Pro and set the format to vertical since these videos are primarily for Instagram and TikTok. The resolution is set to 4K, and I shoot at 30 frames per second using my Sony a6400.

Importing Clips

I shoot from four different angles and import all of these into Final Cut Pro. Highlight all of your clips, right-click, and select "New Multi-Cam Clip." Again, set this to vertical format, 4K resolution, and 30 frames per second. Final Cut will then analyze the clips and sync them up using the audio.

Turn on the audio for all tracks to ensure they align. Rotate all footage from the side by adjusting the rotation to 90 degrees. Once done, scale them appropriately. Use command + C to copy settings, then option + command + V to paste these settings into the next clip.

Organizing and Syncing

I name my project "Chill Vibes" and drag the multi-cam clip to the timeline. Adjust the main audio by bringing in and aligning a mixed version from Pro Tools. This mixed audio is dragged into the timeline and synced with the camera audio by matching the waveforms.

Trimming and Reviewing Angles

Chop off unnecessary parts of the video using command + B. I typically bounce the audio to even eight bars in Pro Tools to ensure it loops correctly. Use the angle viewer in Final Cut to switch between angles. Trimming is just a matter of dragging and lining up the clips.

Adding Text

For text overlays, I use the "Basic Title" in Final Cut. I position the text over the video; for instance, I place “That's Hunter” over my head. Fine-tune the text settings by adding outline and blur, changing the colors to match my studio setup.

Performing Edits

I switch angles in real time while performing, using keyboard hotkeys to make it more fluid. To zoom in on specific spots, I use the Ken Burns effect (found under the crop tools) to add dynamic zooms to the video.

Exporting

Once the video is edited, export the final product by going to “Apple Devices” and selecting 1080p. Name the file (in this case, "Chill Vibes"), and that’s it! The final product is ready for social media.
