How Much I Make with 200,000 Followers On Tiktok
Education
Introduction
Today, I want to talk about my earnings as a TikTok creator, where I have over 200,000 followers and millions of views. I've been part of the TikTok Creator Fund since its inception and want to compare that with my earnings as a YouTube creator, where I currently have just 5,000 followers and an average of 1,000 views per video. I've only been part of the YouTube Partner Program for about a month.
My Journey on TikTok
I began my TikTok journey in June 2020, starting with just 30 followers and no prior social media presence. A friend named Caleb inspired me to create content, having reached 5,000 followers himself, which I found incredibly impressive at the time. Encouraged, I began posting daily videos focusing on various business topics and tools.
After my first month, I grew to around 5,000 to 10,000 followers. By the second month, I jumped to about 20,000 followers, which was a significant milestone for me. By August 2020, when the Creator Fund was launched, I reached 40,000 followers. I was excited about earning money through my content, but my revenue was disheartening: I made only 10 to 15 cents a day. Despite the low earnings, it was better than nothing, as I was not earning anything before.
Since then, I have accumulated millions of views and grown my followers to 217,000. Yet, despite the traffic and high viewership, I made only a total of $ 426.84 from TikTok in over two years.
My Experience on YouTube
I rekindled my interest in YouTube around March 2023 and decided to push forward with more frequent uploads. I focused on producing two videos per week and eventually increased that to three as I unlocked monetization. On the first day I was monetized, I earned $ 9, which shocked me. The comparison to TikTok earnings was stark; with the same viewership, I would have earned over $ 10,000 monthly if TikTok paid similarly.
With newfound motivation, I dedicated more effort into my YouTube content. After just one month in the Partner Program, I earned $ 275.01, almost equal to my TikTok earnings made in nearly ten months. This motivated me to realize the potential YouTube offers, especially in comparison to TikTok.
The Bigger Picture
In retrospective analysis, I recall my earlier YouTube days back in 2010 when I had a solid following around 15,000 subscribers, which is currently still dormant. I made minimal earnings back then, as the platform's monetization model was drastically different and far less lucrative.
However, I see TikTok in its infancy, with potential growth in creators' earnings in the coming years. As TikTok refines its monetization strategies, who knows how much more we creators could earn?
For now, while I plan to continue growing on TikTok, my primary focus will shift to YouTube. There's a whole community I wish to build, and I want everyone to be part of this journey. If you have suggestions or content ideas, feel free to share them in the comments below!
