Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open DaVinci Resolve: Launch the software to get started.

2. Duplicate Your Clip: Select your video clip in the timeline, right-click, and choose "Duplicate." Move this duplicated clip up two layers in the timeline so that you have two instances of your clip.

3. Select the Duplicated Clip: Ensure you have the top layer selected.

4. Navigate to the Color Page: Click on the "Color" tab at the bottom of the screen.

5. Create a New Node: Right-click in the node editor and select "Add Alpha Output." This will enable you to create a mask for your clip.

6. Connect the New Node: Connect the new node to the alpha output you just created.

7. Use Magic Mask Tool: Switch to the Magic Mask tab. Utilize the plus eyedropper to roughly outline the area of the clip you want to remain in the foreground—this is the part you'll keep visible.

8. Outline the Background: Use the negative eyedropper to define the area of the clip you want to remove or place behind.

9. Adjust Tracking Options: Make sure your playhead is at the beginning of the clip. For cleaner results, select "Better" instead of "Faster" in the tracking options.

10. Track Forward: Hit the "Track Forward" button to process the mask across the entire clip.

11. Return to the Edit Tab: Once tracking is complete, switch back to the Edit tab.
