If you're one of those camera-shy people, today’s your lucky day! In this Canva AI tutorial, I'm going to teach you how to bring your words to life with a talking avatar in a few easy-to-follow steps. Ready your cursors and let's bid farewell to self-consciousness once and for all.

Step 1: Launch the Platform

You’ll need to launch the application first. You can either do this on your web browser or download the application to your desktop. For those who are on a budget, there's nothing to worry about—it’s absolutely free to download on almost all operating systems and yes, it’s got the same features you’d find online. For convenience, I’m using the web version because the desktop version drains my battery.

Step 2: Log In or Register

Since I already have an account, I simply log in using my Gmail. However, on days when Gmail's glitching, I use my Facebook or Windows account to gain access. If you’re new to Canva, here’s how you can become a member: click the sign-up button and register using one of the options available. Once registered, you’ll be taken to a personalization tab to tailor the platform to your needs. Don’t worry if you make a wrong choice—you can change it later in the app settings. After personalization, you’ll encounter an ad for Canva Pro. Feel free to sign up for a free trial if you design often. However, this tutorial works just fine with the free version, so you can click the "Maybe Later" option in the top right corner. Congratulations, you're now a Canva member!

Step 3: Going to Work

Once you’re in, you’ll see your Canva dashboard. Select the pink icon that says "Video" for this project. I recommend using 16:9 or widescreen dimensions for anything visually rich, so click that first template in the drop-down menu. You can also customize your dimensions. Once you have opened your design, change the design name to "Talking Avatar" so it’s easier to locate once you’ve downloaded it. Head to the sidebar on your right and scroll down to click on "Apps." You’ll need to type in "Hen AI" to select the feature. Once you open the tool, you’ll see various avatar options. If none of them interests you, you can upload one. You’ll have to connect Canva to the AI platform before proceeding. Just click connect and sign in using your email.

Step 4: Create Your Avatar

Once connected, select or upload an avatar. Pick a view mode; I chose a rectangular one. Upload your script by typing it out or uploading an audio file. If you're not good at writing, use ChatGPT to create a script. Pick an accent closest to yours and generate the video. Once processed, click "Add to Design." Right-click the video to set it as the background. Play the video to see if it meets your standards. For editing, click on the "Edit Video" option in the header. You can adjust several features but note you can’t remove the background unless you have the paid version. Head over to the "Adjust" tab for further enhancements, or add a filter. To elevate your design, go to the "Design" tab in the sidebar and pick a design. Adjust the video to fit your design vision.

Step 5: Getting Multiple Trials

If the free version's limitations are a problem, you can delete Hen AI from your apps and re-register using a temporary email from websites like TempMail. This trick allows you to get around the limitation and create multiple video trials.

Step 6: Monetize

You can monetize these talking avatar videos. Upload educational or tutorial videos to YouTube, like a good recipe if you’re a baker. If enough people watch, you can make money from it. You can also create infographics in your area of expertise or sell these types of videos to small businesses, earning through affiliate marketing.
