How to create YouTube intro videos

Film & Animation

Introduction

Hey everyone, Paige here with Clipchamp. In this video, I'm going to show you how to quickly and easily create an intro for your YouTube channel using one of our pre-made video templates.

Selecting Your Template

The very first thing you're going to want to do is select your template. Once you have the base of your template, you can go ahead and change it any way you like. Head over to the Templates tab on the left, and expand it for a better view. We have a huge range of categories to choose from, but for this video, we're heading into the YouTube Template category. You could also look through the Intro Outro category if there's something else you're after.

Hover over the template for a preview. They are all titled to indicate if they are intros or outros, and usually, there are matching intros and outros for consistency across your channel. Once you've found the one that you want to use (in this case, we're going with a specific one), click on the plus button to load the template straight into your timeline. All the assets, including stock footage, text, stickers, and music, will also load into your media library.

Customizing the Template

The next step is making small edits to the template to customize it for you and your channel. This could be as simple as adjusting the text to spell out your channel name or changing the font and colors to suit your brand. To start off and change the text, scroll down into the timeline where you see the text bars. Select the first one (it will highlight in green) and then head over to the right-hand side to expand the sidebar.

Here are your options:

  • Text: Type out whatever you want on the screen, choose from a range of font options, or upload your own brand font.
  • Colors: Change the text to any color, including specific brand color codes. You can also add a background color to the text.
  • Position and Size: Reposition the text and resize it using the freehand tool.

For instance, to change the text, click into the first text bar and type out your channel name. Do the same for other text bars based on your needs (such as changing them to the title of the video). Playing it back, you'll see the customized intro for your YouTube channel.

Adding Filters

If you wish to add a filter to the stock asset, this is quick and easy. Head into your timeline and click on the asset. In the right sidebar, you'll be in the Filters tab. Choose from a range of filters, like the glitch effect or the glass effect, to make your channel name pop.

Exporting Your Intro

The final step is to export your intro. Head over to the export button, select your video quality, and once it's complete, it automatically saves to your device. You can also find matching outro templates to use by creating a new video, heading back into the Templates tab, finding the matching outro, editing it as needed, and then exporting it.

That’s how you can create an intro or an outro for your YouTube channel with Clipchamp. If you like this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel for our weekly how-to videos.
