How to Make a Video in PowerPoint - ppt to video

Hi everyone, my name is Kevin. Today I want to show you how you can take a PowerPoint presentation and convert it into a video for YouTube or any other video service such as Vimeo, Facebook, or wherever you want to upload your video.

As full disclosure, before we jump into this, I work at Microsoft as a full-time employee.

Getting Started

To begin, I am using PowerPoint from Office 365, the latest version. However, this guide should work with older versions of PowerPoint, although the interface might look a bit different.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Open Your Presentation:

    • Open your PowerPoint presentation that you want to convert.
  2. Add Narration and Video:

    • Click on the “Slideshow” tab.
    • Select “Record Slideshow” from the options. You can choose to start recording from the current slide or from the beginning. If your current slide is the first one, it doesn't matter which option you choose.
    • A new window pops up with a big red record button. You can use this to start recording your slideshow. There are buttons to stop and play the recording, and settings to select your microphone and camera.
    • You can also turn your microphone, camera, and preview on or off.
  3. Recording Your Presentation:

    • Use your webcam to include a video of yourself in the bottom corner of each slide.
    • Utilize the pen and highlighter tools to annotate your slides in real-time.
    • Once ready, click the record button and start your presentation.
  4. Finish Recording:

    • After recording, click the stop button.
    • Close the recording window and you will see thumbnails of your recorded video on each slide.
  5. Exporting the Presentation as a Video:

    • Go to “File” and select “Export.”
    • Click on “Create a Video.”
    • Choose your preferred resolution quality (4K, 1080p, etc.).
    • Make sure to use recorded timings and narrations.
    • Name your video file, choose a save location, and wait for PowerPoint to render the video.

Uploading to YouTube

  1. Navigate to YouTube:

    • Go to YouTube and click on the plus button in the top right-hand corner and select “Upload video.”
    • Drag and drop your newly created video file into the upload window.
  2. Final Steps:

    • Follow YouTube’s instructions to finalize your video upload.

Conclusion

Creating a video from a PowerPoint presentation with narration, video, and annotations is a simple process. This method is great for making rich content that’s ready to be shared on various video platforms.
