Today, I wanted to do a quick tutorial to show you how to use Thinkorswim’s sharing or import links. This is particularly useful if you’ve purchased any scripts from our website. We deliver these scripts via Thinkorswim import links. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use these links, ensuring you’re familiar with them.

Importing a Scan

  1. Getting the Link:

    • You’ll receive links that look like this: [insert link].
  2. Direct Import:

    • In some browsers, you can simply click the link, and Thinkorswim will automatically import it. A confirmation page will appear; click confirm to complete the import.
  3. Alternate Import Method:

    • If the direct import doesn’t work due to browser security features, you can use an alternate method:
      • Copy the link.
      • Go to the Thinkorswim platform.
      • Click on the Setup menu in the top right corner.
      • Select Open Shared Item.
      • Paste the link.
      • Click Preview, then Open.
      • Rename the scan if needed.
      • Exit the separate window and load the scan from the Load scan query menu.

Importing a Custom Column

  1. Getting and Copying the Link:

    • Similar to scans, you need to copy the column link provided.
  2. Import the Column:

    • Go to the Setup menu.
    • Select Open Shared Item and paste the link.
    • Click Preview, then Open.
    • Rename this custom column appropriately and click OK.
  3. Activate the Column:

    • Right-click on the column header.
    • Select Customize.
    • Move your new column from Available Columns to Active Columns.
    • Click OK to finalize.

Importing an Indicator

  1. Getting and Copying the Indicator Link:

    • Copy the indicator link you received.
  2. Paste and Import:

    • Go to the Setup menu and select Open Shared Item.
    • Paste the link and click Preview.
    • Rename the indicator suitably and click OK.
  3. Applying the Indicator:

    • Navigate to your chart.
    • Go to the Studies shortcut or menu option.
    • Search for your new indicator and add it to your chart.

Importing a Strategy

  1. Obtaining and Copying the Strategy Link:

    • Copy the strategy link provided.
  2. Importing the Strategy:

    • Go to the Setup menu and select Open Shared Item.
    • Paste the link and click Preview.
    • Rename the strategy accordingly and click OK.
  3. Applying the Strategy:

    • Navigate to Edit Studies.
    • Switch to the Strategies sub-tab.
    • Search for your new strategy and apply it.
