I MADE A NEW SECRET EDITING ACCOUNT

Introduction

I have been uploading edits to TikTok for quite a while now, and I’d say I’ve gained a decent amount of followers during this time. However, amidst all the years of editing, I completely lost track of what it feels like starting from ground zero—having no followers and no one knowing who I am. So, today, I'm embarking on an interesting challenge: I've created a completely new account with zero followers and zero likes, and no one knows I'm doing this.

Rules of the Challenge

The rules I set for myself are as follows:

I cannot use any of my existing social platforms to promote this new account.
I am not allowed to reupload any of my previous edits.
I must remain undercover until I upload a video revealing the results.

The Journey Begins

I've set up my new TikTok account, named "Skywalker"—perhaps a generic name, but it fits the theme since I'll be sharing Star Wars edits. The first step was to follow some Star Wars editors and scroll a bit on my For You page so TikTok doesn’t perceive me as a bot. My next task? Update my profile picture! I selected an image of Anakin Skywalker, which already makes the profile seems more appealing.

Next, I crafted a simple biography, mentioning that I do edits using After Effects since 2020—this will help in minimizing suspicion. I added a note that it’s a fan page, along with a little USA flag to spruce it up.

For my first edit, I decided to post an edit featuring Anakin and General Grievous. I accompanied the post with a caption stating "my first edit" and included popular hashtags like #ForYou, #StarWars, #Anakin, and #AfterEffects. After hitting the post button, I hoped for the best!

Initial Success

Just a few minutes after posting, I was pleasantly surprised: within two minutes, my edit garnered 40 views and three likes. Before I knew it, it had reached 1,110 views and 188 likes! I received a comment that boosted my spirits—"Your edit solos"—and I made sure to respond to show engagement.

I also realized that being active and engaging with other users through likes, comments, and following people presented me with more opportunities for visibility. After a few days, we had 100 views and 23 likes, and a couple more followers in the box.

Assessing Progress

After three days of working on this account, I saw some gradual improvement. The engagement on my second edit was encouraging as well. I decided to create a different edit style and posted it. I utilized a generic caption: "Best character" alongside the usual hashtags, optimizing for search.

Over the next couple of days, the account continued growing slowly. By posting regularly, navigating the followers I gained, and staying active on the platform, I was managing to drive traffic to my new account.

Concluding Observations

After all this effort, I checked back a few days later to reveal that I had gained a total of 58 followers, 42 likes, with one video being muted—definitely impacting overall views. This experience revealed that gaining traction on TikTok may be more challenging than anticipated. Perhaps with continued dedication and a few strategy tweaks, I could achieve even better results in the long run!
