I Spent 2000 Hours ONLY in Kanto
Gaming
Introduction
A legend has emerged from the dust, with a hero locked deep in the Kanto region on a Divine Journey— a quest of Valor and Marvel. This tale spans hundreds of hours and thousands of encounters through perils unknown. This is the story of the PokéMMO Region Lock.
Hello, everyone! This is Rocket, and welcome back to the PokéMMO Region Lock. I have officially spent 2,000 hours in the Kanto region. As you may remember, the official rules of the region lock state that I must spend 1,000 hours in Kanto, and here I am, doubling that time. During my journey, I have secured four shinies, but that’s not enough to complete the region lock. I still need to obtain the elusive outer region shiny, and until then, I remain bound to this region lock.
In this episode, I will thoroughly review my account's progress, unveil my top-secret Kanto money-makers, and share my thoughts on the game community and the region lock after this extensive playtime. I believe that after spending over 2,000 hours in one region, I have a unique perspective to share. So, without further ado, let’s get started with my account.
Account Progress
In my previous progress video covering 1,000 hours, I did a detailed examination of my Pokédex progress. This time, I won’t repeat that analysis to avoid redundancy. However, I have some interesting updates: since then, I have seen 25 more Pokémon, owned 39 additional Pokémon, and caught seven more. I have also captured 30 more Alphas recently. I discovered that I can egg hunt for Rolu, so now I’m performing that daily while acquiring field male breeders for my egg hunt.
Currently, I utilize four boxes labeled “male” to collect field male breeders for my Miltank egg hunts as Miltank is female-only. This lets me catch my males without spending extra on egg hunting. Furthermore, I have a Charmander box nearly filled, which I plan to sell soon.
Next, let’s delve into my Level 100 Box, which serves as the backbone of my account. This box contains all my future raid and event Pokémon. The aim for all these Pokémon is to eventually reach level 100 to maximize their utility. Here’s a rundown of a few standout Pokémon in this box:
- Typhlosion: Your typical 2x 31, modest nature.
- Chandelure: Modest nature, 25+ in all needed stats.
- Alakazam: Timid nature, with solid speed and special attack.
- Garchomp: An alpha with an impressive stat distribution.
As we move forward, I also keep track of my shinies—four in total, including my special Ditto and Venomoth. While I’m grateful for these shinies, none qualify as outer region shinies yet, which is slightly disappointing.
Top Secret Kanto Money Makers
Recently, I decided to move away from the Safari Zone in search of more lucrative ventures. I have discovered a phenomenal money-maker on Route 5, just below Cerulean City. Here’s the breakdown: I catch male Meowths while breeding field males. For that, I use an adamant synchronized mod to increase my odds of obtaining good IV catches.
Using an Umbreon and switching out to my catching mod allows me to optimize my catches. The use of Nest Balls in combination with Yawn makes this process efficient. This method has proven effective enough that I rate it an 8 out of 10 for its profitability, although it is somewhat click-intensive.
Thoughts on the Community and Region Lock
After 2,000 hours in Kanto, I must say that the game is still exceptional. I have tons of fun logging in daily, grinding through the region lock. While I am starting to feel burnt out from Kanto itself, I still find enjoyment in various aspects of the game, particularly in preparing for raids.
As for the community, I appreciate its support. While some moderation issues have rubbed me the wrong way, mostly regarding player names and bans, I still value the friendships and camaraderie within my team, Team Ru, which has kept my spirits high throughout this grind.
Overall, being confined to one region has proven to be challenging. I began egg hunting for the outer region shiny at hour 589, and now I’m sitting at 284 hours dedicated to egg hatching. I have hatched over 1,000 hours worth of eggs, and yet I still have yet to find that elusive shiny. Nevertheless, I am determined to continue grinding until I reach my goal.
Stay tuned for my next region lock video; hopefully, it will be the one where I pull the outer region shiny. Until then, this has been Team Rocket—smell you later!
