I Tested Open AI-o1 and It's Pretty Darn Good..

Introduction

In today's article, I'm excited to share my full review of OpenAI's latest release, OpenAI-o1. This model is touted as the most powerful and advanced version to date, so I endeavored to put it to the test and see how it stacks up against previous models from OpenAI and other competitors like Anthropic, particularly in content generation.

While OpenAI is currently in the process of rolling out API access for their newer models, I had the opportunity to access the ChatGPT-o1 preview. Many of you should also be able to access it if you have a Plus plan.

Prime the AI

To start with, I primed the AI by providing it with specific instructions: I wanted it to write in a humanized manner, aiming for a low AI detection score. This initial instruction set the tone for the content I wanted to create. After priming, I also integrated some SEO prompts that can be found in the description below this article.

Performance Comparison

One of the most notable differences between OpenAI-o1 and previous versions is the model's approach to generating responses. This version seems to take its time to think—sometimes even up to 13 seconds—before delivering a response. This shift is refreshing, as OpenAI appears to recognize that users prefer quality over instant, robot-like outputs. I wholeheartedly agree with this approach; I value well-thought-out content more than instant results.

For the task, I asked OpenAI-o1 to suggest a topic for an article. It promptly requested clarification on the subject I wanted to explore. Afterward, I supplied a topic I had previously written about: "10+ Questions to Ask Your Real Estate Agent When Renting in Canada."

Generating Content

As OpenAI-o1 began constructing the output, it deftly formulated an outline before generating the full article. This consideration to detail is impressive and a departure from competitors that focus on providing instantaneous replies with less depth.

Once the model completed its outline, I instructed it to write the full article. It appeared to be systematically processing each section, taking the time to ensure that the content reflected the input topic.

Upon review, the article produced was around 1,000 words long, which, while decent, felt somewhat short. I believe that if I had access to the API, the prompting would lead to longer and more comprehensive outputs.

Evaluating Quality

In evaluating the content, the output was relevant to the subject matter, and I appreciated that it included valuable links, even without specifically instructing it to do so. However, I did run an AI detection test using DoAi, and unfortunately, it was flagged as AI-generated content.

Next, I assessed the SEO performance using Neuron Rider. Overall, while I was impressed with the output quality, I still preferred the results I achieved with other models when using their API.

In terms of SEO scoring, the article received a 42 out of 62, which is not bad, especially when considering the 62 represents the most optimized content. After a couple of minor optimizations, I nudged the score up to 55 out of 62. This indicates good potential for writing SEO-optimized content.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, OpenAI-o1 is quite impressive and worthy of exploration. The model's ability to generate organized content, incorporate relevant resources, and deliberate thoughtfully sets it apart from others in the space. While it still requires some fine-tuning for ideal outputs, I recommend trying out this model for yourselves to see the benefits firsthand.
