LUMINAR AI: Color Harmony Tool (DEEP DIVE)
Hello everyone and welcome to The Joy of Editing with Dave Kelly. Today, we're taking a deep dive into Luminar AI's Color Harmony tool, which is an incredibly powerful feature for color correction and enhancement. We'll explore various aspects of this tool, including Color Contrast, Color Balance, Split Color Warmth, and Brilliance and Warmth.
Launching Luminar AI
I usually start in Photoshop, but you can begin right in Luminar AI as a standalone app. Once Luminar AI is open, switch from Template mode to Edit mode to access all the tools.
Using Enhance AI
The first thing we do is tweak the Accent AI tool to balance our image. This preliminary adjustment helps achieve a better light balance. Here's a before and after comparison:
- Before: Darker and unbalanced image.
- After: Lighter, balanced image.
Exploring the Color Harmony Tool
Let's dive into the Color Harmony tool. The tool includes multiple nested features: Color Contrast, Color Balance, Split Color Warmth, and Brilliance and Warmth. To help understand, refer to the user guide on Luminar AI’s website via the Help section.
Color Contrast
This tool allows you to apply contrast to a chosen color range. Adjusting the Amount slider increases or decreases the contrast based on color differences rather than luminance. The Hue slider lets you target a specific color, making that hue lighter while its opposite on the color wheel becomes darker.
- Amount Slider: Controls the contrast between color differences.
- Hue Slider: Targets the hue for emphasis.
Color Balance
Nested here, you can specifically adjust the shadows, mid-tones, and highlights using sliders for cyan/red, magenta/green, and yellow/blue. This granularity allows for precise color corrections or enhancements.
- Shadows/Mid-tones/Highlights: Select your range.
- Sliders: Adjust the balance for cyan/red, magenta/green, and yellow/blue.
Split Color Warmth
Here, you can separately adjust the warm and cool tones in an image. Use the Warm slider to emphasize or neutralize warm tones and the Cool slider to do the same for cool tones.
- Warm Slider: Emphasizes or neutralizes warm tones.
- Cool Slider: Emphasizes or neutralizes cool tones.
Brilliance and Warmth
Use the Brilliance slider to achieve richer colors and the Warmth slider to adjust the color temperature for a stylized effect.
- Brilliance Slider: Adds richness to the colors.
- Warmth Slider: Controls the temperature of the colors.
Conclusion: Before and After
After tweaking and fine-tuning each nested tool in the Color Harmony section, here is a comparison of the overall effect:
- Before: Original image post-Accent AI adjustments.
- After: Enhanced image with Color Harmony adjustments.
Wrapping Up
Finally, I applied these changes to transfer the edited image back to Photoshop. The Color Harmony tool in Luminar AI is indeed powerful, offering various ways to tailor the color aspects of your image.
Thank you for joining me today on The Joy of Editing with Dave Kelly. Until next time, happy editing!
