Marvelous Designer 2024: Auto Convert to Avatar
In this guide, we will introduce the Auto Convert to Avatar feature, new in Marvelous Designer 2024. This innovative tool allows you to automatically convert avatars created in other software into the default avatars used in Marvelous Designer.
Introduction to Auto Convert to Avatar
This feature is accessible through the main menu under Avatar and selecting Auto Convert to Avatar. In the popup window that appears, you will load the avatar from the original file. Marvelous Designer supports importing avatars in ABT, OBJ, and FBX file formats, with a recommendation for avatars posed in an A Pose.
Selecting Default Avatar Type
You can select the default Avatar type based on gender presets in Marvelous Designer. The software offers choices for women, men, boy, girl, child, and baby sizes respectively, allowing you to match the imported avatar to Marvelous Designer's default avatar categories.
Conversion Options
The conversion options include:
- Automatic or Custom: Custom is recommended when retaining the existing rig from other software.
- Exclude Hands and Feet: Retains Marvelous Designer's default hands and feet when transforming the body shape.
- MD Skin Style: Keeps the original body type, converting only the appearance while adding joints.
- Rigging Only: Adds joints while maintaining the original body shape and appearance.
- Size Editable: Changes the body shape and adds joints, allowing size editing with Marvelous Designer's features.
Saving and Naming Your Avatar
You can specify a file name and the file path for where you wish to save the new avatar. Once you've made your selections, click the Convert button to proceed.
Viewing and Using the Converted Avatar
Upon conversion, you can open the folder to locate the Avatar file in the specified path or view it directly in the 3D window. The converted avatars appear in three types in the 3D window based on the settings you chose.
Working with FBX Files
When importing an FBX file without rigging settings, selecting both MD Skin Style and Rigging Only will enable Marvelous Designer to automatically set up a default Avatar rigging shape. Thanks to the consistency with default avatars, you can utilize Arrangement Points and access features such as basic motion, soft body simulation, and more.
