My First Impressions! Pokemon TCG Pocket
Gaming
Introduction
Hello everyone! Dare here, and I’d like to share my thoughts on Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket. You might be wondering why I have access to this game before its global release on October 30th. Well, I took my entire office, packed it into a shipping container, and relocated to New Zealand for the next month! While some players may take the shortcut of using a VPN to get their hands on the game, I’ve done the hard work to get here physically.
Now, let’s dive into the game and see what it's all about.
Gameplay Overview
At its core, Pokemon TCG Pocket stands as a trading card game similar in some aspects to Marvel Snap, although the comparison isn’t entirely fair. It’s important to note the different gameplay mechanics involved. One of the biggest attractions for me is the lightning-fast matches that typically last around three to four minutes, allowing for easy, casual gameplay without the commitment required from titles like Pokemon TCG Live or Magic: The Gathering.
Home Screen Features
On the home screen, you can find a variety of features:
- Upper Right Corner: Gifts, mail, and the season pass.
- Middle: Your profile and level.
- Left Side: “Display Cards” where you can showcase cards you love.
One feature that stands out to me is the Display Cards. You can show off your favorite cards here, and others can even like them. I have a particular fondness for the Neo Queen card.
Booster Packs
The game offers three distinct booster packs. Initially, I was unsure about this variety, but I now appreciate it immensely. Each pack has distinct cards allowing players to focus on collecting specific Pokemon. For instance:
- Charizard Pack: Includes Charizard, Alakazam, and Flareon.
- Mewtwo Pack: Features Bulbasaur, Gengar, and Mewtwo.
- Pikachu Pack: Consists of Pikachu, Blastoise, and the Squirtle evolution line.
I find myself chasing the Pikachu EX because its attack can deal significant damage based on the number of electric Pokémon on my bench!
Daily Activities
Players can open a booster pack every 12 hours, and this timer pauses if you possess two packs. With the premium season pass, which I purchased, players get an additional pack every day which enhances the overall gaming experience.
Another engaging feature is Wonder Pick, allowing players to view others’ booster draws and spend stamina to draw cards from their packs. This element fosters a social connection in the gameplay.
Missions and Deck Building
There are plenty of missions, including daily and advanced ones, that help you earn resources and cards. As I was starting off, I completed beginner missions and wrapped up with advanced ones swiftly.
Deck building was also straightforward. You can let the system auto-build decks based on your collection. While I initially was worried about the cards suggested, it managed to put together a decent water-type deck featuring Gyarados and Blastoise.
Battles
The battling system has both AI and PVP modes. Solo battles let players hone their skills against preset trainers. After a short time, I dived into a PVP match. Winning both AI and player battles felt rewarding and added excitement to the gameplay.
Concerns and Anticipations
I do have some concerns about how monetization might affect the game. While I love the gameplay, I noticed that individuals can achieve extensive collections quickly by spending money, which makes the balance somewhat concerning.
Conclusion
Overall, I’m really enjoying Pokemon TCG Pocket and look forward to digging deeper into its mechanics and card collections. I plan to create more content around this game, so keep an eye out! If you’re excited about it too, let’s connect! Feel free to drop your friend codes, and we can trade or battle!
