New Free AI Text to Video Generator
Now you may have seen a demo from OpenAI some time ago about Sora, their video creation project that's expected to be made available sometime this year. While we don't know the exact launch date, the results are absolutely incredible—you can create high-quality videos just from simple prompts. For instance, imagine a car racing down a mountain track, all generated by AI.
However, there’s a competitor in the market today called Cling AI, developed by a Chinese company, which has recently been made available to everyone. You can sign up for free at clingai.com, and they give you some credits to get started. My free trial came with 66 credits that expire within the first 24 hours.
Here’s how Cling AI works: you enter your text prompt, select the creativity setting, choose between high performance and high quality (note that high quality isn't available yet), and set the video length. One current drawback is that the maximum video length is just 10 seconds. Options for aspect ratio and camera movement are also available.
Let’s test it out. I tried creating a video of a windmill in a beautiful field of flowers on a sunny day. This process costs 10 credits. While generating, a "negative prompt" can exclude certain elements, like clouds. The rendering process took about four minutes, producing a pretty impressive 5-second clip, albeit with Cling AI branding on it. As of now, it doesn’t seem possible to pay to remove this branding, but that might change.
Another feature is "image to video," where you drag an image, and Cling AI animates it. I tried this with a sunflower image, resulting in animated leaves and camera movement—pretty decent for a short social media clip.
The platform also allows AI image creation with options for aspect ratio and reference images for inspiration. I tested it with the prompt "an excited bride waiting to be married," which cost 0.8 of a credit and generated four different versions.
Clicking "bring to life" seamlessly transitions images to video. The practicality is evident for short ads or social media content despite the short video duration. I’m optimistic they'll extend the video-length limit as they enhance computing efficiencies.
Overall, Cling AI shows great potential. It’s user-friendly, affordable, and offers multiple creative avenues. Check it out and see how it could fit your content creation needs.
