    Ranking AI Productivity Tools

    blog thumbnail

    Introduction

In today's article, I want to dive into my thoughts on what AI is currently available in productivity apps. I will discuss the concept of using these tools and how I rank them based on the AI features they've introduced so far.

AI technology, such as OpenAI, has been integrated into many productivity apps. While it may not yet be the biggest thing since sliced bread, it shows potential. When we think about AI in these tools, we should consider whether we are in the early stages of a fad or if it will become incredibly useful in boosting productivity. This article aims to provide a starting point for understanding these applications.

Let's start with Notion. Notion launched their AI a bit earlier than I anticipated, incorporating generative AI technology that allows users to prompt, summarize, translate, and improve spelling and grammar. While these features are decent, I expected a bit more. Notion's AI feels more like an initial step, earning it a B or C rating.

Craft's AI is similar to Notion in terms of output. I would also rate it a B or C. In terms of implementation, I personally find Craft's approach nicer and more packaged, while Notion's is still in its early days. Notion could improve its AI, especially in the aspect of handling tables. Despite these early limitations, I still give both Notion and Craft a B rating.

Mem, on the other hand, deserves an A rating. I should note that I am an investor in Mem, but the reason for the high rating is how well they have integrated AI into existing notes. It leverages the notes that users already have, making it highly useful. However, Mem's limitation lies in its user base. Since not many people use Mem, new users might not find as much value unless they import all their existing notes.

Coda deserves a top rating for its AI integration. It allows users to create AI inside buttons and export it, utilizing DALL-E 2 for solid integration. This flexibility and setup make it very user-friendly and efficient.

Todoist has room for improvement. While their task creator is good, it's not revolutionary. I believe Todoist's day will come when they introduce AI with smart suggestions and advanced capabilities. For now, I rate Todoist a B.

Catalog is on par with Coda. Their integration allows users to create AI workspaces tailored to specific needs, such as how a law firm should structure their account. This practical application makes Catalog highly useful, earning it a top rating.

In summary, my rankings of AI productivity tools are as follows:

    1. Coda and Catalog
    2. Mem
    3. Notion and Craft
    4. Todoist

This landscape will likely change rapidly as AI technology evolves. It will be interesting to see how these tools expand and improve in the coming months.
