Reacting to YOUR INSANE AI Generated 'Photos'

People & Blogs

Introduction

It's been just under a week since I asked you to submit your photos edited with generative fill. I received numerous submissions on Vero with the hashtag PeterMcKinnonChallenge, and now it's time to react to them. I've tried to guess which parts of your photos were real and which were edited, and I must say, some of your work was incredibly deceptive!

Photo Reactions

Desert Portrait

  • Guess: The house is fake, maybe the fence and the hydrophone are fake.
  • Result: Only the water was fake. I’m zero for one!

Mountain and City Photo

  • Guess: The entire city, including the water, is not real.
  • Result: The surroundings were fake, not the city. Zero for two.

Island and Boat Photo

  • Guess: The island, boats, birds, and sky are fake.
  • Result: Yes! Got it right. Score: PM 1, Photoshop 2.

Snow and Mountain Photo

  • Guess: Snow, mountains in the background, and the foreground are fake.
  • Result: Correct! Score evened out at PM 2, Photoshop 2.

Portrait Photo

  • Guess: The background is fake.
  • Result: Yes! Now I’m leading. Score: PM 3, Photoshop 2.

Scenic Photo with Bear

  • Guess: The bear, river, sky, and mountain ranges are fake.
  • Result: Only the bear and surroundings were fake. Score: PM 3, Photoshop 3.

My Photo (Peter McKinnon)

  • Result: This is me with some parts edited, but not counted in the score.

Follow-up Photos

  • House and Trees Photo: Misguessed the house; it was real.
  • Shelby Car Photo: Misguessed the car; it was real.
  • Man with Lion Photo: The lion was fake, not much else.

Final Submissions

  • Got a few right and a few wrong but ended up with a score of PM 5, Photoshop 8.
  • A big shout out to those who participated, and thanks for letting me react to your amazing edits.

Conclusion

Being tricked by the generative fill feature was both fun and challenging. The blend of reality and AI was seamless in many cases, which made guessing very difficult.
