Introduction
To get started with Shotcut, open the software and follow these simple steps to trim and cut your videos efficiently:
Step 1: Import Your Video
- Go to the 'Open File' option.
- Select the video you'd like to import into your project.
- Once imported, you should see a preview of your video in the 'Source' tab.
Step 2: Trim the Beginning or End of Your Video
Method 1: Using the Source Tab
- Drag the arrows on either side of the blue bar to select the part of the video you want.
- Drag the video preview onto your timeline to add it to your project.
Method 2: Using the Timeline
- Once the video is on the timeline, hover over the edge of the clip until the cursor changes.
- Drag your clip to trim it accordingly.
- You can do this at the start or the end of your clip.
- If necessary, move your trimmed clip back to the beginning of the timeline for it to play at the start.
Step 3: Precisely Trim Your Video
- Move the time marker to where you want to trim your video.
- Drag the clip's end to the time marker's position for precise trims.
Step 4: Cut Out a Middle Segment
- Move the time marker to the start point where you want to cut.
- Click the 'Split' button or press 'S' on your keyboard to cut at that position.
- Move the time marker to the endpoint of your cut.
- Use the split tool again to make another cut.
- Select the cut-out segment and press the 'Delete' key to remove it.
- Drag the remaining clips back together.
Step 5: Use Ripple Delete
- Instead of dragging clips manually, select the gap or unwanted clip.
- Click the 'Ripple Delete' button, which will delete and automatically shift clips back together.
- As a shortcut, you can press 'X' on your keyboard to ripple delete a selected clip.
