SIX INCHES of NEW SNOW at KEYSTONE!
People & Blogs
Introduction
Good morning from a snowy yet beautiful Silverthorn, Colorado! Despite the official snow stake not quite meeting expectations, there’s a good five inches on top of the bike rack, thanks to a heavy snowfall last night from 6 PM to 10 PM. Getting from Silverthorn to Frisco was quite the ordeal, as I-70 was a total mess with cars and trucks stuck everywhere. What was supposed to be a five-minute drive ended up taking thirty minutes, but we made it—so all is well!
Today’s plan is to hit the slopes and enjoy some fresh snow. I’m excited but not expecting anything too crazy; just an enjoyable day on the mountain. One of my side goals for today is to send out sticker orders that you guys placed yesterday. It’s been about three days since I last showered, so finding a shower is also on my agenda. The good news? The heater in my van ran all night, keeping it a cozy 73°F, so I was warm while I dug myself out of the snow.
I’ll be heading over to Keystone to catch some fresh runs. To give you a little context, today marks my third ski day of the year. I went up for a short while yesterday, but conditions were crowded and visibility was low due to looming storms. However, today promises to be filled with beautiful weather—a fresh blanket of snow complemented by blue skies.
For breakfast, I whipped up some scrambled eggs and oatmeal to fuel my day ahead. I’m sporting the new Armada Hayden jacket, which is essentially the same shell I’ve used before but in a new pale highlighter green color. The design has changed slightly with pocket placement; we’ll see how it holds up in the snow and grime we usually encounter.
After some time prepping, it's 8:45 AM, and I’m eager to get in line for fresh turns.
Upon arriving on the slopes, I was greeted with fantastic powder! Nothing beats the feeling of deep, soft snow beneath your skis. I quickly noticed the significant change in conditions; the fresh snow made for a much smoother experience than I've had recently. My toes were getting cold, so I cranked up my boot heaters a bit to stay warm. A little while later, I even managed to throw my first butter of the year—a little ripe for a first try, but exhilarating nonetheless!
I also took the opportunity to shoot some footage with my GoPro Hero 13, using an ND32 filter and in hyperview. The combination allows for a wider frame while capturing the thrilling motion blur that showcases the speed. As I navigated through the snow, I met some fellow skiers, including a 75-year-old man named Steve, who shared his enthusiasm for his new JJ skis. Hearing his glowing remarks was a reminder of how age is just a number when it comes to enjoying the slopes!
After four exhilarating laps, I reluctantly decided to wrap up skiing for the day but felt satisfied with the conditions I’d experienced—corduroy and some seriously legit powder.
Next on my agenda was heading to the post office to send out the sticker orders. I appreciate everyone who supported my sticker business; it truly helps me continue doing what I love. After sorting that out, I made my way over to the Silverthorn Library. Since I began a job in wealth management a few months back, I’ve been trying to balance work and skiing on the road.
In the library, I spent a productive five to six hours tackling various financial topics. I love how libraries create such a serene environment to work in! I even engaged in some interesting discussions about market trends.
To close out the day, I picked up a rotisserie chicken from Safeway along with some rice. I’m also trying a new hot sauce called Bravado, which promises a kick with its garlic flavor. It was a fantastic way to cap off a fun day of skiing, work, and life on the road in Colorado.
Thank you for joining me on this snowy adventure! I hope you enjoyed the video and the insights into my day. Catch you on the live stream later tonight. Until next time—peace out!
