Stable Diffusion - Fooocus - Variations and Upscale - SDXL

Today, we will dive into the variations and upscaling options under the input image section. After running the basic run.bat file without any changes to models or styles, I will demonstrate how these features operate.

Using Variations

In this demonstration, I have two images ready for use. I'll start with an image that I want to slightly alter. You can use any generated image for variations. Simply drag and drop your chosen image into the appropriate box. I will set the variation to "very subtle" to illustrate how minimal adjustments affect the image.

• Very Subtle Variation: This setting makes minor changes to the image while retaining its core structure. It may adjust details like armor and facial features without drastically altering the picture.

After generating the variation, the differences are minimal. For example, the hair and dragon details may change slightly, but the overall structure remains intact.

• Strong Variation: This setting causes more significant changes to the image while still keeping its basic structure. Upon generating a strong variation, you will notice noticeable differences compared to the original image.

Exploring Upscaling

Next, I will discuss the different upscaling options available. There are three upscaling methods you can utilize:

1. Upscale 1.5: Increases the image size by 1.5 times. This process adds some details while changing certain aspects of the image.

2. Upscale 2x: Doubles the size of your original image. Similar to the 1.5 upscale, this option introduces more detail, often altering the image slightly in the process.

3. Upscale Fast 2x: This method simply enlarges the image without adding extra details. It tends to maintain the original quality better compared to the other upscaling methods.

After performing these upscales, you will notice that while both 1.5x and 2x upscales add detail, they also produce slight variations in the overall appearance of the image. In contrast, the fast upscale retains the original image's structure but lacks additional detail.

4K Upscaling

Although my previous demonstrations used lower resolutions, I attempted a 4K upscale to showcase the difference. Be prepared for a lengthy process, as this can take a considerable amount of time depending on your system's performance. The 4K upscale process can yield impressive results, although the changes might not always align with your expectations.

To compare the quality, I also used an online service for 4K upscaling, which provides a different result from the Focus generated image. AI-powered online services often deliver superior results compared to in-software upscaling, particularly for those using advanced algorithms.
