SUPER EASY Pop up text animation in Premiere Pro 2022

Howto & Style

Introduction

This effect has become very popular and more and more YouTubers are utilizing it in their videos. Whether using it for subtitles or making it the star of the show, this is a very fun and clever way to draw attention or emphasize a point. It’s also incredibly easy to make.

Steps to Create Pop-Up Text Animation in Premiere Pro

For this example, I will be using Premiere Pro, but you can follow these steps in any video editing program you’re using.

Step 1: Prepare Your Audio File

Before we start on our text, we need an audio file, as we will be syncing the text effect with the audio. Place your audio on the timeline and have a quick listen.

Step 2: Create Your First Text Layer

  1. Insert Text: Click on the 'T' button in the toolbar or press 'T' on your keyboard. Click anywhere on the screen and start typing your first word.
  2. Text Layer on Timeline: You’ll see the text layer has been created and can be found on the timeline.
  3. Return to Cursor: Press 'V' or click on the cursor button in the toolbar to switch back to the cursor.

Step 3: Style Your Text

  1. Open Essential Graphics Panel: Double-click on the text layer to open this panel.
  2. Choose Font: For fun, I’m using the Mr. Beast font (link in the description if you want it too). However, feel free to use any font and style it as you prefer.
  3. Align Text: Make sure your text is center aligned, then scale it as needed.
  4. Center Text: Place it in the middle of the screen by pressing the vertical and horizontal center buttons.

To create subtitles:

  • Use the ‘align bottom’ button or manually adjust using the left (horizontal axis) and right (vertical axis) values for positioning.

Step 4: Create Multiple Text Layers

  1. Adjust Length: Hover over the end of the text layer on the timeline to see the adjustment icon and drag it to shorten.
  2. Copy Text Layer: Click on the text layer to select it, then hold 'Alt' (or 'Option' on Mac) and drag it to the right to copy.
  3. Edit New Text Layer: Place the playhead on the new text layer, double-click, and change the word. Repeat this process for each word in your sentence.

Step 5: Sync Text with Audio

  1. Create Markers: Listen to your audio and create a marker every time a new word starts by pressing 'M' on your keyboard.
  2. Align Text: Use these markers to easily align the text layers with the audio.

Step 6: Fine-Tune with Rolling Edit Tool

  1. Enable Rolling Edit Tool: Press ‘N’ on your keyboard or find and select it from the toolbar.
  2. Match Cuts to Markers: Adjust the end position of the first text layer and the start position of the second text layer to match the markers, eliminating gaps and realigning text positions.

BONUS: Use Pop-Up Effect

For added flair, I like to use a pop-up effect, which I’ve received great feedback on. This effect is available on my store, and you can use the discount code TEXT10 for a 10% discount.
