Introduction

Hello and welcome or welcome back to my channel! If you’re new here, I'm Sophia, and it’s that time of the month again where I select my TBR (to-be-read) for October. This month, I'm excited to announce I've added a few new prompts to my TBR jar to embrace the spooky vibes of the season!

I plan to choose eight books for October. The reasons? Well, I love having a lot of options, and I have a week off from uni in the middle of the month, so I hope to get some serious reading done. So, without further ado, let's dive into the prompt selection!

Prompt 1: An Author Whose First or Last Name Starts with S

I drew the prompt for an author starting with "S." After considering several options, I decided on The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James. The novel follows a true crime blogger who gets a job at a haunted hotel while exploring a case involving a female serial killer. It has a 3.75 average star rating, and the premise has me intrigued.

Prompt 2: A Book with a Different Colored Cover to the Spine

For this prompt, I went through my shelves and ultimately chose Unsteady by Pinting Kar. It features a dark blue spine and a light blue cover and presents a college hockey romance with a focus on mental health representation. I attempted to read it previously but didn't get far, so I'm giving it another chance.

Prompt 3: A Fantasy Romance

Next, I pulled a fantasy romance. I’ve been tempted by The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent, which is a vampire romance. The storyline revolves around a girl from a powerful family who finds herself in a competition with a ruthless vampire. Its nearly 500-page length is daunting, but I’m willing to take the plunge!

Prompt 4: A Book Starting with a Random Letter

I used a random letter generator for the next prompt and got the letter "F." Out of all my options, I decided on Face Off by Chelsea Curto, a sports romance centered around hockey. With a good average star rating of 4.24, I’m excited to see how this one plays out.

Prompt 5: A Book Closest to 300 Pages

Having recently used this prompt last month, I opted to put Mayfly by CJ Lead back on my TBR. This book, which is a horror retelling of American Psycho but featuring a female lead, is 294 pages long and perfect for the spooky season.

Prompt 6: A Random Color Generator

This prompt allowed me to pull from a random color generator, which landed on yellow. I found that Collide by Babra matches pretty closely and is another college hockey romance, which fits my current mood perfectly!

Prompt 7: A Book I Think Will Be a Five Star

For this challenging prompt, I chose Quicksilver by Kelly Hart. The intriguing plot includes a character with hidden powers who finds herself in the middle of a conflict involving fae. It has a pretty high average star rating of 4.46, and I’m curious if it will meet my expectations.

Prompt 8: A One Word Title

Lastly, I drew the prompt for a one-word title and decided on Coach by Dey Perry. This second-chance romance revolves around a football coach and a woman from his past, and I'm looking forward to their reunion.

With that, my TBR for October is complete! I have a mix of horror, thriller, fantasy romances, and college hockey romances lined up, which should keep things interesting. If you’ve read any of these titles, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
