The Best AI Video Tools Available Today
Science & Technology
Introduction
If you've been following the AI space recently, you might have noticed that AI video is experiencing a sort of renaissance. New companies are releasing video generators that compete at the highest level and existing companies like Runway are pushing the boundaries of what's possible with models like Gen 3, which is currently in the alpha phase. Add to that the Sora quality, which sets a very high bar, but is not yet available, and you have a space ripe for exploration and experimentation today.
That's why I'll be ranking every AI video generator available today based on not just my personal experience, but the entire AI Advantage team's experience. The methodology is quite simple: we took two prompts and two images and ran them through all these generators. We then combined our testing results with personal experiences, asking each team member who works with these tools for reviews.
This ranking, dated July 16, 2024, is subjective and based on the tools available at the time of writing. Here is our tier list:
Detailed Rankings
Gen 2
Gen 2 was the best model a few months ago. It was solid but not exceptional, and didn't find its way into many commercial productions. It has tools like background removals, motion brushes, and more, making it a B-tier tool despite its inconsistent output quality.
Genmo
Genmo's video generation is trippy and inconsistent, making it mostly unusable. Thus, it lands in the useless tier.
Hyper AI
Hyper AI missed my radar initially, but some team members found its output surprisingly good and consistent. While not phenomenal, it delivers solid results and thus ranks in A-tier.
Pika
Pika was incredibly hyped but turned out to be subpar. While it had a few free credits, better options exist, pushing it into the useless tier.
Pix
Pix offers a free trial and provides decent results with consistent animations. It ranks in A-tier.
Gen 3 Alpha
Currently an alpha version, Gen 3 Alpha has top-notch video generation quality. Despite its lack of features and high cost per clip, it clearly belongs in S-tier for its sheer quality.
Moon Valley
Moon Valley didn’t generate test results because no team member found it useful. It is placed at the bottom and has no free trial option.
Dream Machine
Dream Machine ranks high for its strong video generation ability and usable keyframing feature, landing in S-tier just behind Gen 3 Alpha.
Crea
Crea is more like stitched stable diffusion images than true video generation. While not entirely useless, it ranks in C-tier.
LTX Studio
Despite its high-quality tooling for generating video-based stories and scenes, the video generation quality itself is not good. This lands LTX Studio in B-tier.
