The Birth of Balarama | Mahabharat in English | Season 3 Episode 6

Entertainment

Introduction

Dak Kei and Vasa found themselves imprisoned together in a dark cell by Kamsa, who believed that only after Dak Kei gave birth to two more children could he eliminate them, thus falsifying the prophecy about the eighth child. After witnessing the tragic murder of their six children at Kamsa's hands, the couple was left shattered and traumatized. The horrific images of their children's violent deaths haunted them, leaving them in a state of constant grief.

In her anguish, Daki expressed to Vasa her despair over bringing children into the world only to lose them to Kamsa's cruelty. She wished to avoid childbirth altogether, yet Vasa, despite feeling powerless, knew that their only hope lay in the prophecy of their eighth child. With great effort, he persuaded Daki that the divine child was their salvation.

Not long after, Daki became pregnant once again. When Kamsa learned of her pregnancy, he mocked her, declaring he would kill the child as soon as it was born. One night, in the cold darkness of their dungeon, an extraordinary event unfolded. A luminous portal appeared, pulsating with celestial energy. From this portal emerged Yogamaya, the goddess of illusion, who brought a message of hope. She revealed that the seventh child growing in Daki's womb needed to be safely transferred to Rohini, far from Kamsa's reach.

Despite their fears, Daki and Vasa entrusted their fate to Vishnu's will. Yogamaya performed the miraculous transfer of the embryo to Rohini's womb, much to the astonishment of Nanda and Yashoda. Unbeknownst to Kamsa, the divine play of destiny was far beyond his grasp.

In a different narrative, Pandu, who had renounced the throne to lead an ascetic life, struggled with the yearning for children. He confided in his wife, Kunti, revealing his desire for her to participate in the Nioga ritual, allowing her to conceive on his behalf. Kunti was initially shocked, torn between her loyalty to Pandu and the wish he expressed. As their emotional conflict deepened, Vidura expressed sorrow over Pandu's choice to abandon the throne.

Meanwhile, Dhritarashtra reveled in his newfound kingship alongside his many wives but mistakenly took a maidservant as one of his wives due to his drunken state. Kunti’s pregnancy, intended to bring forth heirs to the Kuru dynasty, became a source of divine concern surrounding the dynasty's fate.

In Gokula, Rohini discovered she was inexplicably pregnant after the divine transfer. Overwhelmed yet comforted by Nanda's wisdom, she embraced her sacred role in facilitating the divinity of Lord Vishnu. When the miraculous moment of birth finally arrived, the child radiated strength and grace. Rohini named him Sankarshana, symbolizing the extraordinary connection between the two mothers and their shared destiny.

The birth, unlike any other, signified the orchestration of a divine plan that promised to reshape the world and unite the forces of good against evil. Rohini stood at the center of this cosmic event, destined for greatness alongside her miraculous child.
