The CRAZY AI Photo Editing Features Inside Samsung Galaxy S24

Smartphone cameras have been improving over the years, which is great to see. However, when it comes to editing photos on the go directly from our mobile phones, we've never really had outstanding features. But Samsung's new Galaxy S24 series with the implementation of Galaxy AI is changing the game for mobile photographers and photographers in general.

Before we dive into these exciting features, if you want to see the photo quality of the Samsung S24 for yourself, I posted a video last week comparing the S24 to my $ 5,000 professional camera. I tested both in perfect daylight, which is great for smartphones, and in low light, which is not ideal for smartphone cameras. If you're curious to see how the S24 performed, check out the link in my bio or click here.

Instant Slow Motion

One of my favorite features is the instant slow-motion capability. During Samsung Unpacked, this feature was highlighted, and I couldn't wait to test it. The Galaxy S24 series uses Galaxy AI to generate additional frames between your existing ones to slow down any clip, regardless of the frame rate it was shot in. Even if you shoot in 24 frames per second and later decide to slow down the footage, you can now do so. This feature works on any video, whether it was taken on the S24 or not.

Another highly anticipated feature is Google Circle to Search. This feature allows you to search the web for objects within any app by holding down the middle button and circling the item. It works even within the camera app’s viewfinder. For example, if you see a model car, you can circle it, and it will search for the exact same model car online.

AI Editing Features

The S24 offers a plethora of AI features for editing photos:

  1. Generative AI:

    • In the gallery app, you can click on any photo and select the blue generative AI button to either move or erase a subject or object.
    • This feature fills in the background amazingly well, although it struggles a bit with shadows.
  2. Horizon Fix:

    • You can use generative fill to fix rotated images without cropping and losing the original wide shot.
  3. Object Eraser:

    • This tool allows you to erase objects faster than generative fill.
    • It includes Erase Shadows and Erase Reflections features, which work exceptionally well.
  4. Color Mix:

    • This feature offers HSL (Hue, Saturation, Luminance) adjustments similar to those in Lightroom, allowing you to change colors in photos dynamically.
  5. Spot Color:

    • Turns your photo black and white, letting you highlight specific colors selectively.
  6. Lasso Tool:

    • Designed likely for creating stickers, this tool can perfectly cut out subjects to add stylized borders.

Portrait Editing Features

When editing portraits, the S24 provides additional AI-driven features:

  • Face Effects: Includes smoothness, tone adjustment, jawline enhancement, eye size adjustment, and blemish fixing.
  • Background Blur: Adds a fake blur to the background while making perfect cutouts of the subject.
  • Fix Red Eye: An automatic feature to remove red-eye, mainly useful when shooting with flash.

Additional Notes

If you edit a photo with generative AI, you'll get a watermark in the bottom left corner. However, you can remove this watermark through the Object Eraser tool. Notably, the features like instant slow-motion, generative fill, and skin retouching can also be used on photos not taken with the S24.

In conclusion, the S24 is packed with features that make it fantastic for photo, video, and on-the-go editing.
