This €799 Flagship Is BETTER Than My iPhone 16 Pro Max? Xiaomi 14T Pro Review
Science & Technology

Introduction
Xiaomi's 14T Pro arrives as an affordable flagship, flaunting specs that often eclipse those of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which carries a price tag nearly double its own. In this review, we’ll explore the performance, display, camera capabilities, and overall user experience of the Xiaomi 14T Pro, contrasting it with Apple’s flagship device.
Design and Build Quality
Upon unboxing the Xiaomi 14T Pro, it immediately strikes a visually appealing pose with its Titan Gray color. The back features a slightly busy camera module layout, which may cause a double-take since one of the rear components is simply a dual-tone LED flash. Despite that, the overall build quality feels solid due to its metal frame.
Inside the box, however, Xiaomi took a leaf out of Apple's strategy by omitting the charger, which is a notable downside. The inclusion of a SIM tray tool, Type-C to Type-A cable, warranty card, quick start guide, and even a case softens that blow slightly. Despite the absence of a charger, the phone supports 120W supercharging, which I had the chance to test later.
Display
The Xiaomi 14T Pro features a stunning 6.67-inch AMOLED display termed as the "Crystal Clear" screen. With a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, the resolution is 2712x1220 – surpassing HD but falling short of Quad HD, yet it still offers great clarity and sharpness. The flat design is a refreshing change, and with a peak brightness claim of up to 4000 nits, the screen performs excellently, though my measurements suggest a true peak brightness closer to 1200 nits.
Performance
Equipped with MediaTek's Dimensity 9300 Plus chipset, 12GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, the Xiaomi 14T Pro departs from expected lows in performance. Using it, I found the UI very responsive with no noticeable lag. It runs Hyper OS based on Android 14, integrating multiple pre-installed apps, but the user experience remains smooth.
Battery Life and Charging
The device packs a 5000 mAh battery, allowing for around 12 hours of screen time in PC Mark tests. Fast charging via Xiaomi's Hypercharge technology took just 26 minutes to fully recharge from empty—the omission of a charger feels quite unfortunate in this case, especially given the rapid charging capabilities.
Camera Performance
The camera capabilities on the Xiaomi 14T Pro include a 50MP main sensor, 12MP ultra-wide, and a 2.6x optical zoom camera. Initial comparisons with the iPhone 16 Pro Max revealed a surprising performance—selfies, in particular, looked better on the Xiaomi, whilst the iPhone reigned supreme in video stabilization. Night mode shots with the Xiaomi overcame issues like lens flare notorious on the iPhone.
Gaming and Audio
For gaming, the Dimensity 9300 Plus handled demanding titles like Genshin Impact without breaking a sweat. The phone does feature dual loudspeakers but sadly lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. The haptics could be improved, feeling less responsive than previous Xiaomi models.
Conclusion
In summary, the Xiaomi 14T Pro offers substantial value for its price point of €799. With an impressive display, powerful performance, robust cameras, and breathtaking charging speeds, it’s a strong contender against pricier alternatives like the iPhone 16 Pro Max. While missing certain features such as a headphone jack or included charger, it's hard to ignore the overall balance and capability this device brings.
