Introduction

In a creative endeavor, Zuki and I collaborated to design a striking pair of shoes inspired by classic school supplies. Our project started with the removal of roses from the shoes, which I then dyed a vibrant pink—matching the shade of an eraser perfectly. Zuki, embracing his quirky nature, transferred a pattern from one of our notebooks onto the shoe using a push pin. Although it seemed a tedious task, the result was incredible.

While Zuki meticulously focused on his pattern, I indulged my curiosity about the insides of Expo markers, ripping them open and splattering the paint on Lin's notebook paper. To this experiment, I also added highlighter ink, which I initially doubted would show up well. Contrary to my expectations, the highlighters proved to be more vibrant than any other colors!

Once I finished creating the painted paper, I needed to transfer that design to the shoe. Using masking tape, I traced the shape of the shoe panel and then cut it out from the decorated notebook paper. The randomness of our chosen materials—markers and highlighters—was intentional, as the shoes were set to restock the next day, making it a perfect back-to-school theme project.

Applying a spray glue, I secured the paper pieces to the shoe, which surprisingly held them well. Afterward, I used the same adhesive to reattach the dyed roses, though I wondered if using E6000 might have been a wiser choice. Nevertheless, it turned out satisfactory.

To make our creation even more functional, I cut out a sizable hole to insert a pencil sharpener, ensuring that it worked perfectly to enhance our back-to-school theme. Overall, I am thrilled with how the custom shoes turned out, but I’d love to hear your opinion: do you prefer these new designs or the originals?
