Typogram Product Update № 19: Variable Font Gradient & Glyph Substitution

Science & Technology

Introduction

Welcome to another exciting product update from Typogram! In this update, we are thrilled to unveil a host of new features added to our logo editor. Among these features, my personal favorite is the introduction of variable font gradients. This development allows designers to create stunning gradient-like visuals, enhancing the overall aesthetic of logo designs significantly.

Variable Font Gradient

One of the prominent trends in logo design is the blending of multiple font weights to create a gradient effect within the letter forms. With the recent integration of variable fonts into Typogram, we are now able to harness this design trend effectively. Variable fonts are a unique format that allows manipulation at a very granular level. In contrast to traditional fonts, which provide distinct styles such as regular and bold, variable fonts enable you to make subtle modifications, such as slight changes in weight, producing fluid transitions.

How to Use Variable Font Gradients

To explore this feature in our logo editor, simply select your design and navigate to the font selection menu. Here, you can filter for variable fonts. A pro tip: fonts marked with a diamond icon are exclusive to our platform and come from our premium licensed collection through Type Foundries.

Once you select a variable font, you will notice the font gradient option pre-selected under the weight settings. A curve graph will visually represent the styles across your selected design. The handle on the left represents the first letter of your text, while the handle on the right signifies the last letter. By adjusting these handles, you can manipulate the styles applied to your design effortlessly. If manual handling isn’t your preference, we offer various gradient templates that allow for predefined parameters, providing you with even more design possibilities.

Glyph Substitution

In addition to variable font gradients, we've also introduced glyph substitution in the logo editor. This feature presents alternate glyphs for certain fonts, offering a variety of creative choices. To utilize glyph substitution, simply select a letter from your design, and check for any alternative glyphs available in the right panel. If you find a substitution that enhances your design, just click to apply it, making your logo not only unique but more distinctive.

We are eager to receive your thoughts on these new features! Have you tested the variable font gradients or glyph substitution yet? Any suggestions or feedback? We would love to hear from you!
