Why Rules Are Important?
A Day With No Rules: A Story
This is a story about a day with no rules. Every morning, a boy named Ryan has to wake up early to go to school. In school, Ryan has to follow many rules, like listening and keeping quiet while the teacher is teaching. At home, Ryan has more rules to follow — no TV until he eats his dinner and finishes his homework.
One day, Ryan thought to himself, "I wish we could live in a world with no rules." Suddenly, Ryan found himself back at school, confused and disoriented. He noticed his friends coming into the classroom, talking and laughing loudly. He asked, "Hi guys, why are you late? Where is Ms. Annie?" to which Bella replied, "Today is a no rules day. Ms. Annie didn't feel like teaching, so she went home."
Excited by the idea of a no rules day, Ryan decided to go home to play. He rushed home, feeling exhilarated. "Mommy, I'm home! What's for lunch? I'm hungry," he shouted. But the house was in a mess. His mother replied, "Sorry honey, it's no rules day, and I don't feel like cooking or cleaning today."
"Well, this means I can eat all the chocolates I want and watch TV while eating," Ryan thought to himself. After indulging, he came up with another great idea — to go to the park and ride his new bicycle because he could do whatever he wanted.
While riding down the street, Ryan noticed chaos everywhere. People were shouting and fighting, there was fire on the street with no one to put it out, and trash was scattered everywhere. At the park, Ryan saw his friends playing. Derek approached him and said, "I like your new bicycle, I want to have it," then snatched Ryan's bicycle.
Ryan angrily shouted, "Hey, that's my new bicycle. My dad just bought it for me!" But Derek smugly replied, "I can do and have whatever I want because it's no rules day." That’s when Ryan realized the importance of rules. Without rules, police officers, firefighters, and cleaners don't have to work to keep the world clean, safe, and peaceful. There would be no teachers to teach kids about right and wrong, and his home would remain a dirty and messy place because no one wants to clean it.
Ryan wished he had never wished for a world with no rules. Suddenly, he heard Ms. Annie’s voice in the background and woke up from his dream, relieved. "What a relief!" he exclaimed. He then called out to his mom, and she replied from the kitchen, "Ryan, are you back? Are you hungry?" Ryan was glad that everything was back to normal. Now, he understood why rules are important.
