Why THE LIONSHARE was distributed via BitTorrent (with JAMIE KING) #bearfact #indiefilm #p2p

The Lion Share has to do with a fictional bit torrent site called The Lion Share. I always wondered if that was why The Lion Share ended up on Votto's radar when we were looking for films to distribute. Because of the fact that we required people to share the film for free, that meant that there was only a small subset of filmmakers who would meet our criteria.

Firstly, filmmakers would have to have made the film themselves because any filmmaker who's made the film raising funds from other people has probably signed contracts, which may not allow them to share it freely. Secondly, it has to not have been distributed by a big distributor because they will have taken rights that restrict the ability to share it globally. Thirdly, filmmakers need to be ideologically aligned with the idea of sharing, or they just need to not care about these restrictions.

When we saw your film, because it was about a torrent site, I thought it was a pretty good bet.
