YouTube's New Rules - OBEY OR ELSE!!!
By Joel Persinger, The Gun Guy
Thank you for all of your support for GunGuyTV. Recently, I've received numerous emails and direct messages asking about YouTube's new policies and why I've decided to move away from YouTube as my primary platform. I want to clarify that I didn't completely abandon YouTube; I'll still upload content that complies with their guidelines. However, YouTube's increasing censorship has driven me to create content for censor-free platforms like Rumble and X.
YouTube’s New Policies
Starting June 18, 2024, YouTube will prohibit certain content demonstrating how to remove safety devices. Content showcasing homemade firearms, automatic firearms, and certain accessories will be age-restricted. This decision affects numerous creators, especially those who have built their livelihoods on YouTube. Here's a detailed look at YouTube's new policies:
- Prohibited Content: This includes any tutorial aimed at selling firearms, providing instructions on making firearms or ammunition, or showing how to install certain accessories.
- Restricted Live Streams: Handling, holding, or transporting a firearm during a live stream is not permitted.
- Vague Rules: Terms like "appropriate" and "subjective" make it challenging to navigate these rules without risking penalties.
Impact on Content Creators
Many successful YouTube creators who earn significant income might "suffer through the loss" rather than moving to new platforms. In contrast, I don't rely on YouTube for my primary income and thus decided to pivot to other platforms.
The Future of Gun Channels on YouTube
Creators need to brace for more restrictions. Strikes for violating the policy can lead to channel termination. Age-restricted content and the extensive list of prohibited content areas indicate that YouTube is tightening its grip on gun-related content. YouTubers should consider moving to platforms like Rumble or X to avoid being indefinitely restricted.
Conclusion
Expect more creators to explore other platforms, especially as YouTube's policies become increasingly restrictive. While YouTube has been a launching pad for many, it's essential to prepare for potential exits to maintain creative freedom.
