If you've ever been excited to share a video online but found that the editing process kills your vibe, you're not alone. Video editing can take a long time, especially if you're trying out new software or don't know how to edit videos. We here at Kapwing are working to change that. Kapwing is a content creation studio where you can create your story in one place. We are constantly working to make Kapwing more robust and user-friendly so you can make your videos in record speed and stress-free.
Today, I'll share some of my favorite Kapwing hacks that you might not know but can speed up editing dramatically.
First, click the link in the description to go to Kapwing.com, sign in for free, and create a new project. Import a piece of content that you want to edit. I'll use a sample video as an example.
Go to the settings button near the top bar and click it. You'll notice a setting called "Ripple Mode." By default, ripple mode is off. When you split videos and delete a portion from the middle, it leaves a blank area in your timeline. Turning ripple mode on will automatically slide down everything, significantly speeding up the editing process.
Snapping should be automatically turned on. This feature helps your content snap to the nearest clip in front of it when dragging. It's useful for rough drafts, and you can turn it off for more specific edits.
You can use the slider to get to specific clips, but there's a faster way: use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard. The down arrow key moves you to the ends and beginnings of clips, while the up arrow key reverses the navigation. The left and right arrow keys can move the clip frame by frame, useful for making precise edits.
Splitting is one of the most frequent tasks in video editing. Instead of using the split button each time, use the shortcut key, which is the "S" button on your keyboard. Hold the seeker, click "S," move to the next part, and repeat. This method lets you split multiple clips quickly.
If you've edited one clip and want to apply those changes to other clips, you can use the copy-paste function. After adjusting a clip's volume, brightness, saturation, and filters, click the copy button (Command + C), highlight the other clips, right-click, and select "Paste Modifications." All your changes are applied to the selected clips.
This feature is especially handy when using templates. Right-click on the clip you want to replace, click "Replace," and choose a new video from your media library or upload one. This method ensures that the timing remains intact, especially useful for pre-timed templates.
We've added multi-select for text, videos, and shapes. Drag a box around the timeline to highlight multiple elements, making it easy to move several files around simultaneously.
By using these Kapwing hacks, you can significantly speed up your editing process, making it much easier for you. Thanks for reading!
